Also if true, Gauthier seems more proactive when it comes to signing prospects than Gainey. He's already signed Hunter Bishop and Brendon Nash.

Also from his twitter:

I think we should believe him. He must have analyzed our team well from the press box.

He must know a lot about what it takes to win a cup being a Penguin? Oh wait, he only got traded there in March and was a loser for the better part of his career playing for Toronto.

**** Alexei, sore loser.

Well, it's been a while we didn't have a rumor of him signing with us... but hey, why not ? For the PIM part, I think he just learned to control himself, as he was aggressive, over-aggressive at times. I don't know if he will ever fight again with his re-arranged face, but he's still very physical, and I think on a NA sized rink, he would be even more... will probably be a defensive D who can make a decent first pass. Anyway, I still think we need that kind of D in our lineup, big, physical and mean badass

Yeah he had more points in this playoff run then combined his last two years lol. Hes found his offensive touch, and I think with good coaching he can be a punishing hitter, fighter and shot blocker with a decent first pass and a mega cannon on the point. If this signing turns out to be true I will be very happy.

If he's an upgrade over O'Byrne it would be totally great. Also probably means Gauthier will try to dump Hamrlik or Spacek at the deadline.

Regardless we are giving up nothing and possibly getting a potential top 4 dman. Great move for the Habs if it happens.

It would be nice to finally get him over here, but I'm not going to hold my breath. We seem to hear this every year.

How the hell would he know? He was a Leaf and has never come close to a sniff of the Stanley Cup.

The whole Penguin team is full of sour grapes!

I hope he does sign with us. I had this scenario in mind for the longest time, Emelin could take over Hamrlik's spot towards the end of next year. Emelin is better suited for the NA game and i think he could flourish and become a better player in the NHL. He has more offense to his game than we give him credit for and hes very good with the puck. He would need some time to adjust to the NHL but if it goes the way it should, we wouldnt have to overpay for a UFA D once Hamrlik leaves.

I thought the tale of Emelin was a myth.

He's not really a tough guy, Alexander Svitov put an end to that myth.

He's pretty 'dirty' though from what I gather in terms of hitting.

But Yemelin had better stats recently and a d-men can take more time to devellop.
Still don't see how this guy can be better than:
Markov, Subban, Gorges, Spacek, Hammer.

He could be figthing for spot #6 with Gill, O'Byrne.

The only place I can see him is AHL.
He needs to prove he is better than Weber, Carle and Benoit.

As for Korneev, he would become an immediate top-4.

PS in PO, Gill is better than Hammer.
Korneev's game is less likely to translate to an NHL level than Emelin's though. Emelin plays a North American style already.

I think this guy is arriving late to the party! O'Byrne, Gorges, Subban + Weber, Carle and then the vets Markov, Gill, Spacek, Hamrlik, Bergeron. We go from no d-men to too many.

Oh, he won't give a damn until he plays him for the first time. Then, after, he'll come up and say he's Ulf Samuelsson v3.0 (2.0 apparently being The Traitor).

Emelin doesn't stand up as a guy who's a great fighter, but I wonder if we could end up developping him into a nastier version of Volchenkov.

Even if Emelin doesn't play here, some room will need to be created because I don't see O'Byrne being once again limited to a 7th D role. He's played solid overall this year and needs regular playing time to continue his progression.

I think its habs or bust with this guy. He isn't leaving his home country and good pay to ride buses down in hamilton. Bring him in for training camp and see if he can crack the team. I'd like to see both Hamrlik and Spacek shipped off this summer but don't see it happening.
