Horrible.

How much does Havlat make? I think it's a start, I really don't know much about Minn. but they would need to add more.

I several concerns with this trade:

Firstly, it is practically no help from a financial standpoint. Koivu is an UFA after next season, and will require a new, and likely more lucrative, contract. For this season, it actually costs Nashville more overall salary and makes the nearly impossible task (with the current constraints) of re-signing Hornqvist even harder.

Secondly, if Nashville must trade either Weber or Suter, they should trade Suter. Regardless of which of the two is the better defenseman, Nashville's defensive prosepects (Ellis and Blum, primarily) are close to Suter in their abilities than Weber.

Unless 100% absolutely necessary, you don't trade Weber or Suter. The clear direction of this team is that it is going to be their team for years to come. Before you do that, you ask someone with a NM/TC to waive it for the betterment of the team. You admit your mistake, you ask for forgiveness, and you do what's right for the team- which is your job. Keeping any of the five that have those clauses over Shea Weber and Ryan Suter is not what's best for the team.

Havlat's injury concerns are an issue for me as well (thanks Soundgarden).

Of course, that's just my opinion.

thanks.

I think salery wise it's about even, but Koivu is about to be a FA, and Havlat didn't put up "great" numbers with Minnesota (he's only been there one year) last year and I don't know if he'd put more with us because we are a trap team

Anyway we could get a better package for Weber.

I haven't figured out how this makes the Preds better or helps them in any way. If someone can enlighten me feel free.

It adds the superstar scoring we've been trying to acquire since Radulov bolted. Havlat, when uninjured, is a very Hossa-esque player and Koivu has some serious skills.

And neither fits the Preds style of play. Havlat has played 1 full season since he's been in the league. Can anyone say brittle?
Calling Radulov a superstar is stretching things a bit.

Picking up Koivu is an intriguing idea. He's young, a captain, wins faceoffs, plays on the PK and PP, good two way player that points up points. To have him, Legwand and Wilson as our top 3 centers would certainly make us very strong up the middle. However, I don't know that we give up one of the best young defenders in the game but if you want something of value, you have to give something of value.

If I were a GM and looking to trade either Suter or Weber, I'd get at least an 80+ point a year player in return. Someone along the likes of Perry or Parise would be more of what we'd really be looking for. As good as Koivu has been, he's not the goal scorer that we need, he's more of a setup guy although he does score some too. Perry or Parise are gonna put up 30-40 goals a year and are gritty players.

I think Koivu fits the way we play. Good two way responsible player. He's good in the faceoff circle. He had 28 PP points last year. Scored 71 points. Not a shabby player by any means. I wouldn't do it the way it was proposed but Koivu is a good start although not what I'd like to see happen.

Koivu is a player Barry Trotz would absolutely salivate over acquiring; he plays a similar game to Legwand, but is far more productive.

I don't want to give up Weber for him, though, or, for that matter, Sullivan, who was one of the few graybeards to show up in the playoffs and busts his butt every shift.

I get the Weber part but Sully? Come on, we all love Sully but if we had a chance to acquire a guy like Koivu for Sully, sign me up. We're talking about a guy who is entering his prime for a guy who's on his last legs of his career. Love Sully, would hate to see him go but for a guy as good as Koivu, include him in the deal and say thanks. It'll never happen because Weber isn't going anywhere.

Why would we want to trade Wilson? Big kid, great soft hands, tons of potential, could end up being better than Koivu, cheaper and younger. Interesting thought but no.

Also, why would Minny trade for Hamhuis when one, I don't think they need him or can afford him and they can offer him a contract on the open market in July. The only thing we get for Hamhuis is possibly a pick. If Timonen and Hartnell could land us a mid first round pick I'm thinking Hamhuis's rights might get us a third, at most.

We're losing Hamhuis, we can't lose another defenseman.

I think the fad of trading a pick for a UFAs rights is gonna go by the boards. Philly was kinda desperate when they pulled that deal with us. most teams will make the pick conditional, and if the player doesnt sign the team has to send something back their way. I think we got a 4th round pick for Hordis rights but when he didnt end up signing with whoever it was (carolina?) we had to send them a 5th round pick in the following draft or something like that.

Im not counting on getting anything for hammer's rights

No. In fact, hell no.

That trade actually insults me a bit.

If that's the asking price, we will gleefully enter negotiations.
