I thought a Duncan Keith type deal was the general consensus.

Maybe I'm not part of that general consensus because I really don't want any deal longer than 7 yrs, if at all possible.

I'd be extremely happy with 5 years 45 million. If the playoffs have shown me anything it's that more than ever any NHL team can go to the Finals. The Kings are already one of the top 16 teams in the league, they have youth and depth in the minors, depth at goal and defense, it's time to add a superstar. I really miss that edge of the seat type hockey I saw with Gretzky and Palffy on the Kings.

You just said Doughty is the guy who deserves a 10 year deal.

Kovy is more of a sure hit than Hossa but i have to wonder if we won't end up in the same boat.
It has nothing to do with Hossa's contract of 5.5 on the cap hit. We may be able to keep 2 of 3 with that money, who knows. The problem for the Hawks are Huet and then Campbell.

5 yrs 45M = 9.0 (Absolute highest as far as CAP hit)
6 yrs 52.2M = 8.7M (Hmmm..)
7 yrs 59.5M = 8.5 (I can see this happening)
8 yrs 64M = 8.0 (Should get it done)
9 yrs 67.5M = 7.5 (I can see him staying real productive all the way till 36 for sure)
10 yrs 70M = 7.0 (He would be 37 heading into the season)

Remember this is only if we get into some real bidding wars. It is high numbers but I can live with this and know DL can lock up our core guys. Plus, I expect DL to always keep our prospect pool strong.

Someone needs to remind Kovy that this is L.A. and the extra couple of million that other cities can/will offer plus more can be made up in endorsements for him and oppty's for his actress wife, if we become one of the elite teams the Staple Center fills up every game and the stars come back. You saw how after years of no highlights on the local stations after a couple of playoffs wins we were the lead story.

Give him a front loaded long term deal to keep the cap number down and then let him go to the KHL if his production drops too much. The biggest issue we will have is AEG ready for a leap of faith and are we ready for season ticket prices of a cup contender...

Kovy's agent has said on more than one occasion that he doesn't want one of those front-loaded contracts with the money falling off in the end.

Some of you are delusional if you think that we can get Kovalchuk with 5 years 37 million and/or any number around 7 million. Im sure we could do it because every player in the league wants to play here right? And I am also sure that Kovalchuk wants to be paid less then Scott Gomez, Chris Drury and Brian Campbell JUST SPECIALLY TO BE IN LA WHERE HOCKEY IS AMAZING.

People with those numbers should already be preparing themselves to be seriously disappointed.

7 years 63 million is about right.

That was when Atlanta was the team offering the contract. You don't think agents lie?

If Steve Austin was worth $6 mil, then give Kovy 7.8 mil, which is 1 mil more than Kopi.

We don't need no 8 million dollar man.

Kovy will go to LA..

The front office staff have already stated on a number of occasions that they will aressivley hunting down Kovy and if he dosn't want to play in LA they are going after Marleau!.

Great moves if either happen .. those are reliable sources..

Not quite sure where to post this but the hawx have more than 60% (36 mil) of their next year's salary tied up in just 6 players. Add to that, Niemi is a RFA next year which means, that the hawx will more than likely lose him.

I know Sharp's name been mentioned quite often but I wouldn't be surprised at all to see them move Hossa as well. Assuming, he doesn't have a nmc/ntc.

Which hawx player would you be most interest in?

Sharp at $4 mil
Versteeg at $3 mil
Byfuglien at $3 mil
Hossa at $5 mil
