Scott Gomez in the ECHL?

Is he stupid? Why is he playing in the ECHL. IMO that's a waste of talent. He could easily play in Europe or at least in the AHL.

He can play wherever he wants and take someone's job away. True. But he chose to play near home where there was already a spot available to him--without having to force someone out of their job. Gomez is one of my favorite players and I have the greatest respect for what he is doing. Good for him.

I think he's proving that money isn't everything for some people.

He was originally going to go to Russia and play but he didn't like it and wanted to play here. And since this is the only team he could play for he chose the ECHL. We have a college team and a ECHL team. He has a few sponsors the biggest one being Subway the other one is a local cellular phone place so he is making less but he is making decent money.

I don't think he could play in the AHL.

Here's an article, "After calling for an end to NHL season, Gomez finds satisfaction in ECHL ", by Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger,
Quote:
Why don't they just call it off?" Gomez said. "They shouldn't prolong this any more. They can't keep talking salary cap. The players have done a lot to get this going, but we're not going to take a cap. The players are still very much united.
Gomez has accepted the ECHL's $500 a week salary cap.

Maybe he respects guys like Jiri Dopita enough not to take his job and living from him and his family.

I don't know. Maybe he's just lazy and a mama's boy. Wants to stay close to home.

Pretty stupid comments, but I admire the fact that he's trying to give back to Alaska by playing there during the lockout.
