RIP Ronnie James Dio

Quote:
Ronnie James Dio, a singer with the bands Rainbow, Black Sabbath and Dio, whose powerful, semioperatic vocal style and attachment to demonic imagery made him one of the best-loved figures in classic heavy metal, died on Sunday morning, according to an announcement on his Web site by his wife, Wendy. He was 67.
http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/20...er-dies-at-67/

RIP, he was one of the innovators of rock. Had a tremendous voice for being such a small guy. Most famous for his work with Black Sabbath, he was also the innovator of the devil horns that Carcillo does. He will be missed.

Paid my respects in the banter thread, but Dio deserves to be honored as much as possible. That last Sabbath/Heaven and Hell album was awesome, he showed no signs of slowing down...rest in peace.

That's a shame. Zeppelin was really a great band.

I'll definitely miss him. Dio, Rainbow, and Sabbath will be taking up all of my playlists this week.

Dio is the ****ing man. Holy Diver is the back patch on my demin vest.

I'll always miss dio.

But the one thing that i can take some solace in, is that at least he wasnt murdered like Dime, and I had some warning with this.

Dio, You have rocked for a long, long time. Now its time to pass the torch.'

Im just gonna copy my post for the OBT thread too...

Today, Ronnie James Dio died. At 7:45 am this morning, he died of Stomach Cancer.

Dio was an amazing singer, and influence in Heavy Metal. He'll never be forgotten by those who loved him and his music. He helped shape the Metal landscape, and without him, it could have been a very different place.

RIP Dio. You were the ****ing man.

I luckily was able to see Dio with Sabbath the last time they came into Camden. I cant imagine how bad I'd feel if I would never get to see him live.

Saw H&H when they came a few years back with Megadeth and Machine Head. I have to say it's one of the most memorable shows I've been to. I was like 3 feet away from my guitar idol Tony Iommi. Dio's stage presence was incredible for someone of his size and he knew how to work a crowd. One of my favorite singers of all time. I can say that I'm more of a fan of Ozzy Sabbath because I'm a doom freak, but Dio Sabbath takes a back seat to no band. They were completely different than they were in the 70's and for good reason. Dio made every band he was in that much more incredible.

I first got into Rainbow because of Ritchie Blackmore but when I actually discovered Dio, he was the reason I loved that band.

RIP brother Ronnie \m/ <---The originator!

Yea that was more like my concert (Heaven & Hell, Megadeth and Down), but ForsbergOdin's seems like a much better one to go to

Sad to see him go.

His music will still keep us rocking though

I saw Motorhead a few years ago. All I can say is middle of the first song, a rather large woman comes running to the stage from about 10 rows back screaming "Lemmmmmmmmmyyyyy...I love you...." to which Lemmy looked and said "Oh shyte" into the mic.

Dio might lead the rock world in MSE GDT appearances.

I gotta believe that this cat is not resting in peace my friends, probably more like crying and gnashing of teeth better represents where he is now, after all is that not really what his life was really all about ?you gotta serve some one in this life, and he certainly picked his master. sorry for noticing who and what his message was all about.I wish his family and loved ones well.

REALLY???? People still think he was all satanic and ****? What year is this?

I'm sure he was also responsible for at least one or two suicides committed by disillusioned yutes.... (who grew up in crappy homes with crappy parents, but it's the musician's fault)
