1. They are not moving Malkin. He's one year removed from a Conn Smyth trophy for crying out loud
2. In the world would they trade him within the conference? Would you do that if you were the Penguins?
Would never happen, and even if it did, they'd ship him to the west before they ever considered a EC team, let alone a Atlantic division club.
Plus, you'd be talking Lindros level of return, completely asinine to make a deal like that in a cap-era. It would cripple the franchise, even if it meant picking up a world class player.

Same. I honestly don't like it when people put Malkin in the same class as Crosby and Ovechkin, in spite of his accomplishments. Too many nights, Malkin is pretty much invisible.

They'd demand Gaborik to start... trades like this usually mean 2 15+ minute guys, 2 top prospects, 2 top picks and a meaningless depth guy...
From us, they'd expect Gaborik, Dubinsky, Grachev/Werek/Kreider/MDZ/McDonagh/Anisimov...
I wouldn't do it because it's too much that is integral to give up. And that isn't even among the top 10 deals they could get... if the tables were turned, I'd not give up Malkin for that return.
I have a feeling a lot of families will be changing addresses on draft day. Unfortunately, NY probably won't be involved in any of the legit trades.
of course if pittsburgh could develop some quality players outside of lottery picks they wouldn't be in this situation. Yes they have drafted some nice talent outside the first round, but management seems to have shyte it all away.
Ryan Malone would have been nice to keep, Colby Armstrong too. But beyond that, the penguins haven't really had any success drafting wingers.

I think makes both better. Especially since I think Malkin plays his best hockey when Sid is hurt or isn't scoring, so I'm inclined to believe he'd thrive on his own team.

Wolski + Boedker + Yandle for Malkin is a solid basis for a deal I think.
pretty sure they would move Staal's 4mm cap hit before Malkin's. Gonchar is a goner, theres 5mm right there, ponikarovsky, fedetenko, and guerin make up another 6mm. Thats 11mm they have to spend to get Gonchar a replacement and add some winger-support. I think they have more than enough caproom as currently assembled, and would move Staal well before Malkin.
Don't really see how this helps the Pens more then it hurts them. Some team would end up outbidding the Rangers. They would probably be looking for an elite winger and a good young defensemen for starters.
I love Malkin & would love him on the Rangers but I can't see the Pens dealing him. That would be a panic move that they don't need to make right now or in the near future. I did see a thread that was discussing the Flames Jerome Ignila said he would consider a trade if it was right for him & his family. I could see The Pens making a move for him & they don't have to deal malkin.
If this Ignlia thing is true I hope we could get him over here some how.
You know its summer time when Ranger fans think of new methods of taking the short road in building a team.
Accept it folks, for us to make any kind of splash we need to have sunk for a couple of seasons. And for the "well look at Montreal" crowd, you could fiddle together a random group of players like they did 100 times and not see the conference finals once. Don't bank on it.
