Lucas Lessio?

Obviously he was one of the big time touted prospects from last year's OHL Priority Selection. But the continuing evolution of whether he'll ever play in the OHL remains in question. With his announced NCAA commitment and the trading of his rights to the Oshawa Generals.

So, do we know if he'll ever play OHL hockey? Will his rights have to be traded to one of the "haves" of the league in order to get him into the OHL?

from what I've heard is the LL is ok with playing in the OHL (regardless of team) but his mother is very firm on him playing NCAA.

After losing Czarnik and the rights to Campbell... Lessio better show up at Michigan next year.

This is just pure speculation on my part I have no facts what so ever. But the gens did give up quite a bit to get Lessio. And DiPiero has strong ties to St. Mikes so I think there is a good chance he does report to Oshawa.....But again I don't know anything other than that and the Gens now have a strong ownership group with Pete DeBoer who was known for luring kids away from the NCAA...If the gens could get Lessio and Biggs to report in the next season or two it would give the gens probably the best group of 93 birth dates in the OHL. As a gens fan I hope he does report, but I'm not getting my hopes up until I see him in a jersey.

Playing with Boone Jenner at the U17 might have helped the cause as well... you never know.

Peter the Cheater rides again?

I'd love to see the Gennies with a strong team again. The franchise has too much history to be hanging out near the bottom of the league this long.

Cody Payne is also listed on the Orientation Camp roster.....Whether or not these guys eventually sign is up in the air...Its nice to see guys who are wavering on NCAA/OHL to show up as Oshawa is a great place to play JR hockey.

I believe Payne has committed to the USNTDP which probably means he won't report for atleast two seasons...

Its exciting indeed though to see these guys atleast seeing what the team is all about

If its a hockey decision, then the OHL is easily the best place for him right now.

He is already the best player in the CCHL, and probably will not grow to much. The other option would be to go to the USHL for a year, but I do not think that that is in the cards.

I can not imagine him in the CCHL for a second season, it really wont help him much.

Lessio was just drafted by Waterloo of the USHL in the 1st round

Would they pick him without some knowledge or hope he is coming?

I think that the percentage of first round USHL picks that commit to the league is 65 - 70 percent, but I could be wrong.

That said, I truly believe that he will be one of the 30 percent who did not go to the league, but thats what I have heard threw secondary sources at the rink.

If hes not going to the OHL, then he really should be heading to the USHL, but time will tell.

If Lucas plays for the USHL doe's that eleminate him from being NCAA aligible,
I see him playing for the Gen's or Michigan before going to USHL.
doe's anyone know the rule on this?

No the USHL is a feeder system to the US college system. It is where players who want to play for good colleges go.

Naz, just to add. Players in the USHL can either go the NCAA route or the OHL route. But generally the USHL is considered a stepping stone into NCAA by some.

Why not?..Naz hasn't been posting much therefore may not be a regular reader. He and asked a question that's easily answered.
I'm sure there's been lots of posters who never knew the answer right away.

Very true, Gagner is one who took a year in the USHL to decide what his future would be.

I think Lessio should go there if it is his true desire to play in the NCAA, another year in the CCHL will hurt his development.

Article out today that Waterloo is trying to get Lessio and Alex Guptill (Orangeville/CCHL) to join their team next season. Lessio and Guptill are both verbally committed to Michigan for 2011.
