Would Brisebois for Gauthier be a good trade for both teams?
It takes a lot to impress bleu, blanc et rouge faithful...short of a Cup parade. This might be the exception. If Bob Gainey could, somehow, persuade Daryl Sutter to pull the trigger on this one, it would be worth, at least, a few overturned cars and some low-level looting down Rue Ste. Catherine.
From the Flames perspective? Sometimes pictures speak more eloquently than words: :clown:
the only way this could work is if the trade was reworked to be something like this:
Denis Gauthier, 2nd rounder in 2004, 5th rounder in 2004
Patrice Brisebois, Marcel Hossa, $2 million
I wouldn't even include the 2nd rounder. They'd have to seriously pay us to take Brisebois in a trade for Gauthier considering what other teams could probably offer us for the guy. What good is getting Brisebois when we have Andrew Ference, who is showing signs of excellent development, Toni Lydman, and Jordan Leopold? Where would he fit? Darryl Sutter even said himself that what he considers veterans are guys like Regehr and Iginla, who have been around a while now and know their roles inside and out. If we're looking veterans than Breeze-by is certainly not one I would want on the team.
I'm almost certain that if Gauthier gets traded, it will be for a top-12 forward. With names like Calder and Nilson being thrown around on this board, I see no reason as to why we should accept a package for an overpaid, underacheving blueliner who has serious defensive shortcomings.
