From a Hab's perspective I say: DEAL!
From a Sharks' perspective I say: Eh... rather keep Gooch
Of course the latter is my opinion as a Sharks fan. Apparently not all are sold on Gooch in San Jose. Thus he is potential trade bait. The value is honestly fair given the unproven potential of the key players involved in this deal. In addition Price free up significant cap space for San Jose, while being a potential franchise tender. I want still keep Gooch myself however I do not shun this trade.
We just need a stop gap for a year or 2 before Stalock is ready
^ this. The Sharks need to keep their young talent like seto. Our forward pipeline is pretty dry right now. As for goalies, we have greiss, sexsmith, stalock, karlsson. We have enough goalie depth that we do not need a young starter, just need a stopgap till our young goalies are ready. And the way stalock played last year in his first season, he may be ready sooner than anyone could of hoped.
Not likely. As much as we would like to say all our favorities are untouchable, and no one every really is, I would say the 2 players that will be mainstays in San Jose for the rest of their careers are thornton and Boyle. Currently with the sharks depth, I can't see them making many If any trades, unless we are the one tradeing prospects for a key piece. Even then the pipeline is too dry for even that. Besides, if Blake retires and marleau and nabby walk this offseason, the sharks would have almost 16 mil in cap room to resign everyone and use the fa market to fill the rest of the team.
No. Both McGinn and Setoguchi are beginning to pay dividends at the NHL level, there is no reason to move them for younger prospects and Price. You haven't even considered the goalies in the San Jose pipeline who could be ready in the next 2 years on the outside.
