Watching the Islanders in China ** Trip to China now OFF** 5//24/10

As luck would have it, I'm going to be in China while the Islanders are visiting in September. Does anyone know when the tickets will be available and where I could buy them?

China is pretty big dude. It may be as "convenient" as going to see the Yankees play in Seattle.

but your best bet is probably to get in touch with the Islanders directly.

I might be over there as well in Shanghai due to business but it should be pretty sick.

I will let you know when if I find anything out about tickets .

The Players Association wanted to inspect the area in China to make sure it met certain standards. Apparently Wang felt this would insult the Chinese.

"The Islanders' planned trip to China in September for training camp is off.

Although the 9-day Asian jaunt was met with initial approval from the league and NHL Player's Association, it recently hit a snag regarding procedural requirements.

One source said that the PA wanted to send representatives before the Islanders embarked on their trip to make sure all facilities complied with certain standards.

While this seems like a fairly innocuous and reasonable request on behalf of the PA, Islanders owner and China native Charles Wang anticipated the tenuous situation it may create with the Chinese and subsequently objected to such a request. The deal fell through last Friday.

"it's disappointing," Islanders general manager Garth Snow said. "The players, their wives and girlfriends, everyone was looking forward to this trip. It was an opportunity of a lifetime to go over and have an experience that otherwise would've been unavailable to our team...."

Good, now that "Vacation in China" is off they need to get down to business this training camp by have the whole thing at Iceworks. By doing this build some hype around the team and in the communit as well as get the fans to see some of this stuff so that there can finally be some real hype around this team going into the season instead of hiding them in canada or now china for training camp.

Wang, Snow and the players want to go to China so bad how about they schedule a team vacation in the off season. What a ridiculous idea from the start.

Or, why spend all that money on a trip to China if the team is about to be sold?????

Actually it was a good idea and would of actually built up the Islanders maybe across a country of over a billion people. More exposure across the world is good. I bet you if the Isles went to Asia and played they would be pretty popular overseas as well as having the games already televised in Mandarin.

I have been to Asia and have a pretty good grasp on how open they are to professional sports from the USA. Maybe the fact that I am in the sports industry might help me as well know this .

The Isles need to build up the fans on Long Island and have the other fans start going to games but that can ONLY be done by winning games.

Winning is the key...not where you have training camp or building hype

Iceworks...great idea. They can't fill there arena so why not put it on Long Island. So there can be five people there.

Anything is better than the ice works......

Training Camp in China Cancelled

http://www.islanderspointblank.com/2...s-association/

Says that it was cancelled because Wang didn't want to pay a "suggested donation" that was requested by the NHLPA to be sent to youth hockey programs in China and because they wanted to send union reps there in advance to survey the facilities. Why do I feel like there might be something more to this?

Cause there are no fans, quite as paranoid as nyi fans?

I'm can't say that I'm upset the China trip's been called off.

I do expect Las Vegas/Hamilton/Houston...some city that wants an nhl team,to pay Wang a hefty fee to hold 2010-2011 training camp in that city.

Good, it was a good idea in some ways, but a really bad one in other ways.

The worst part was, who the hell would they play in exhibition games over there. I'm glad the NHLPA said no.

I'm so glad this idiotic trip is off.

1. It's stupid
2. The travel would destroy any chance at a good start to the season
3. It's stupid
4. Wang's an idiot
5. No consideration was put into the players w/regard to this trip

If I'm on NYI and I hear of this, the first thing I do is put a call into the NHLPA and find a way to sabatoge this moronic idea. Doug Weight anyone?

Regardless if you were for the trip to China or against it, it's just another few lines on a two-decade old Islander resume that would make F-Troop look like the Navy Seals.

Why is NOTHING this organization does without epic fail lurking around the corner?

LOL...Good question.

You'd think that Wang should be concentrating on other things, rather than a team trip to China.

When has something gone right for this franchise?

IMO, the whole "CHINA" trip was to sell the game to potential future Chinese investors. China has a thriving economy.
Bothers the heck out of me that
A. this was disclosed on the anniversary of the greatest day in any isles fans memory. (1st cup)
B. Wang said he was worried about the Chinese having problems because of the PA's standard procedures (which by the way were already disclosed and agreed upon).

Strange.
My question...does he even care about us Americans? Us Islanders fans?
Everything was fishy about this thing and while some fellow Isles fans have brought out great points (that there may be more to this), my heart has had enough and my gut tells me more and more that this owner is a bigger fraud than ever before.

I cannot wait for him to sell this team, no matter what the repercussions are.
And this from a fan who went to game 1 at the Coliseum and has loved this team ever since.

This is a weird story. It looks bad at first blush, and I can only imagine more info coming out will not improve things.

No wonder Wang and Milbury remain friends. They're impulsive birds of a feather.
