Implications of the Flyers winning the Stanley Cup on the Rangers Organization

What effect would the Flyers winning the Stanley cup have on the Rangers and assessing what direction the franchise has been going in the last 15 or so years?

When you compare the two teams in terms of fan bases, size of market, and financial power, the Flyers are the Rangers closest rival. Both teams have had been forced to rebuild, but the scope and success has apparently been different between the Rangers and Flyers.

Do the Flyers winning a championship put pressure on the Rangers, whether it be internal or from the outside, to reevaluate their strategy? Would the media put more pressure on New York (i.e. Philadelphia is successful, why aren't you)? We all make fun that Dolan is clueless, but could a Cup in Philadelphia trigger something within Sather / the Rangers brass make changes?

As a fan, do you think a Flyers cup run kind of shines a light onto the magnitude of the Rangers failures?

I dont really think so.

I also think Chicago is going to kick the crap out of them and noone outside of Philly will remember this run 10 years from now.

I think that the fact that we were so close to them in the regular season, represents more success of the Rangers organization than it does failure.

And Philidelphia wont make it to 6 games.

If the Flyers win, I give up on hockey forever. So there's a pretty negative implication right there

It seems whenever the two teams meet its a turning point: in '95 after they beat uds

I don't see it having any implication.

Let's just say as a Rangers fan born in Pennsylvania, I wouldn't be too happy. They have bragged and picked on me since that shootout in the final game of the season. They must NOT win a cup.

No, the teams are not comparable besidebeing in the same division. Flyers have massive forward depth with many different but strong goal scoring threats while still being decent on defense.

We lack true scoring depth and have 1 real scoring threat with the others being secondary or below interms of scoring ability, but we retain the defensive ability (atleast from our forwards standpoint)

They lack true stable goaltending... We have (1A) goaltending that most teams around the league would kill to have.

Theikr defensive backbone is Pronger and Timonen... We have the all mighty Staal and Rozsival/Redden.

There shouldn't be any implication.

If you believe in what you're doing (obtaining a core of good, controllable young players) than you keep building towards that - irrespective of what others do.

Don't see there being any real implications but I do think the Chi/Phi series will be closer than most expect. Both are probably the 2 deepest teams in the league on offense and defense. I'm expecting a good series.

Also Philly will most likely be looted and burned to the ground.

Absolutely zero implications. Other than the fact that I will be annoyed. Since I hate the Flyers.

No implications at all, IMO. Philly had one lousy year but aside from that have been a contender for the most part. They have one of the best lineups in the league, but they've always fallen short in net. I don't see the correlation between the two organizations.

Leighton will be lit up like a Christmas tree so I don't see how this is even going to happen. It's going to be like 1997 all over again for them.

If the Rangers missing the playoffs doesn't inspire Dolan to change anything, then Philly winning the cup certainly won't.

Sather will keep doing whatever he wants. He will continue to make bad decisions regardless of what team wins the cup.

I don't think it's going to have any tangible implications. It will piss people off in NY, but nothing will change.

Hopefully it shows them if they have 4-5 big money players worth their contract with 2-3 rising young guys on ELC/low money, that mixed with value 4th liners it makes an excellent combo.

Dumping Redden and investing that in player(s) worth it is the first step towards that.

I think the Lebron James situation will have more of an impact than the Flyers. If Dolan can get James which I think he will then a lot of pressure is off him to do anything with the Rangers like fire Sather.

I think the two have absolutely nothing to do with the other.

The negative implication is that I'd probably kill myself. How's that?

Beyond it frustrating NYR fans, nothing will come of it. However, I see the Cup going to Chicago, so hopefully all is well.

I could see the players using it as motivation to pound the Flyers in the 1st game against when the out come of that game is less likely to be detrimental to the season standings.
