Why it helps Nashville: They get two pretty good players who are arguably 2nd liners or 1st liners to make Clowe-Pavelski-Hornqvist. Keep in mind Pavelski's 17 Points in 15 games, and Clowe's 10 Points in 15 Games in the playoffs.
Why it helps San Jose: Weber is one of the best Defensemen in the league, and he could become the franchise's captain.
Thoughts? Maybe put Boyle in and throw out Pavelski to help out the PP? Please don't flame. If SJ underpays maybe add in Dany Heatley and throw out Ryane Clowe? Hornqvist could score 82 points alongside good offensive players...
On HFBoards? Hell to the no. Realistically, that's a pretty fair trade, and if you replaced Clowe with Douglas Murray or McGinn or Couture I'd snap it up.
In order to get a franchise defenseman like Weber you're gonna have to give up at least 3 players in some form or another, whether it be players, picks, prospects or some combination. You'll also have to give up a pretty good player amongst those three. Pavelski is a good start. Throw Couture and a 1st round pick and it might be doable. Boyle is of no interest because of age and his contract status.
On the flip side, Weber is not going anywhere, he will be the face of the Nashville franchise for years to come.

What? Douglas Murray is at the heart of so many defensive breakdowns. I'd totally jump on Pavelski/Murray for Weber.

I don't watch many non-sharks games, how good is Klein? Unless he is a top-2 D on a team without Shea Weber/Ryan Suter, Couture and Mcginn throw that overboard. Couture could evolve to a point per game player, Pavelski is super-clutch, and Mcginn has a great shot from the wing. The 2nd pick makes this around the same area as the famous Lindros trade...ok, well, not that bad, but it hurts us bad. Weber is really good, but not that good...

Point is, we don't draft well...in all seriousness, why would we give up picks when we already have good players to trade instead...and if we don't win the Cup next year, I can easily see blowing up the team to get a few 1st overall picks, and in that case, Weber is about even with the value of the 1st overall pick IMO. Why would we trade a few potentially 1st overall picks for a really good player?

Murray is the last thing we need. He's big, but he's awful with the puck and prone to positional miscues.

Not good enough to play upwards of 20 minutes a night like he did this season, at least not yet.

Poile has worked too hard to build this team to trade one of our "franchise" players for anything other than another franchise player.
And the problem is even if a GM wanted to trade one of those other franchise players, they are probably already signed to deals we cannot afford.
I was going to say something along these lines yesterday, but I guess I kind of figured it was common knowledge. Other fans aren't used to having a self-imposed cap, though.
We can't afford to trade Weber. Not because we don't have other defensive prospects with tons of potential, but because we won't be able to afford what comes back. Start hoping we sell out our barn 30 times per season if you want Weber or Suter in a trade. Or hope our attendance drops so far we can't afford to sign one to an extension, but if you hope for that the hockey gods will cast some bad karma on your house. (ok so karma doesn't exist, but I'll be pissed at you anyway)
