Adam Foote to re-sign with Avalanche: 1 year deal

Per Dater
Quote:
I’ll have a story up on denverpost.com in a few, but I’ve learned that Adam Foote has agreed to a new one-year deal to stay with the Avs.
I'll hold off on having the "confirmed" prefix, but with Dater's credentials, there's little reason to doubt he's misguided on this one.

I'm ok with this, as I didn't see him retiring, provided he takes a paycut and a lessened role.

EDIT: Confirmed
Quote:
Foote will receive a base salary of $1 million, but will have a number of incentives as part of the deal that could at least double that amount. He made $3.25 million with Colorado in 2009-10.

Dater has now added.

Deal is for $1 million base salary, with incentives.
So, that's a nice deal for Colorado.

1 mil is a good deal for both, Foote still brings solid leadership and can help shape that young team.

Foote was instrumental in helping along the young kids (and providing living accommodations for Duchene ). His leadership in the locker room was a big factor to our success.

At a reduced role and salary (which looks to be 1 million), he is still a solid option as a bottom pairing guy. Maybe he'll even take some back to backs off.

1 million base salary with incentives. Meaning his cap hit will be higher, correct? Any word on what?

Not an unexpected signing, but good for Colorado nevertheless.

One more year with Foote wearing the C, and then it will be turned over to Stastny.

Nice deal for the Avalanche. He'll be making considerably less than he did last season and that money can be spent on making the team a bit better this offseason so this already young team can continue to grow and hopefully go even farther than last season. It's good of Foote to agree to that discount which of course makes sense for him at this point of his career and it's a great deal for the organization too.

Foote can still be solid as a bottom pairing D-man. He's a great veteran leader who really helped the young guys on that team last season. His presence for another year will be more than welcomed.

I like the way the Avalanche are headed. Getting their captain resigned for another year will continue to really help guys like Stastny, Duchene, Yip, Mueller, O'Reilly, Galiardi, Stewart, Quincey, and Wilson. Hopefully their playoff run will be a longer one next season with Foote staying.

Nice to know that the guy knows he sucks this late in his career. Always tough to face that reality. Seriously though solid deal to keep him on board.

Solid deal for a bottom pairing dman, but has so many intangibles.

In before some other fellow Jackets fan kvetches about the guy.

Smart move for Colorado. Good on 'em.

I'm not positive but I'm willing to bet he's in the top 5 among active players in playoff games played, with all the talented young players on that team this is a great move keeping him around. One of the most underated players of his era.

Well said and completely agree. Mind you, I think ex team mates and coaches would echo the same setiment. If Luke Schenn can have a career like Foote; Leaf fans should be extatic.

I'm an Avs fan and the guy isn't that far off. Foote was pretty bad for various stretches throughout the year. He's not fast enough to keep up to the young studs of todays NHL. He got beat wide alot on the rush. Once he's inside his own zone he's ok and is a tough SOB in the corners and in front of the net, but his ice time could use a cut again this year.

He's slowed down theres no question. That Pavelski goal was just a small example of how age has taken it's toll on him. With the type of player he is 35 is right around that age where it all goes. Similar to Jason Smith/Hatcher(though Gator was obviously never as good as the other 2 it's compareable styles I'm using.).

Absolutely.

Perhaps I took your characterization a bit too literally.

Reading your other posts frequently, you are typically better than offering such limited, simplistic description.

No question at all there.

When you compare him slowing down to Smith and Hatcher, I can say I can see what's happening to Foote happening to Rivet now too, unfortunately; 35 and is definitely starting to slow down. Rivet plays a comparable style to Foote IMO so I thought of him instantly when you connected Foote with those other players of that same style.
