Lombardi "Not Optimistic" on Frolov

This kind of drove a dagger through any hopes in my heart of resigning Frolov.

Mostly stuff DL has said before, but admitting that he isn't optimistic sucks. And this is the first time he has openly said Frolov is asking for a lot of money. Well, he didn't say "a lot of money", but he might as well have.

He also said there is a substantial offer from the KHL in the works. We knew there would be, but he's saying its already out there.

Great guy, love to have him stay, but at the same time I wouldn't be heartbroken if he left.

Another negotiation and another time DL airs the dirty laundry. The guy either loves the drama or does this in order to make sure he doesn't look bad. Either way, if the player doesn't take a home town discount DL will play this game.

Yet people think that Dean will give Kovy enough money to make him join the Kings?

I'm not to sad about it.
His numbers were decresing since 3 years and he is one
of the most important tools for Murrays board Rugby.
If we can't get rid of Murray we better take away any tools he can use to play 70's hockey.

thank's Frolov for the last years.
Hopefully you can get a Red Wings contract.
You will looking good in red-white and you get a coach you deserve

I don't know why he does this. What positives are there to gain? It's not good for the organization that the GM airs his and everyone else's business out like that.

But that said, I'm glad. That Frolov isn't going to be here is far from surprising, this is undoubtedly news we have all known for some time.

His ever decreasing numbers lessens the pain quite a bit. If he had had a great season losing him would be very hurtful. Now it's mostly sad because of nostalgic reasons.

It basically kills any future negotiation. Maybe Fro is just starting his offer high and will settle in between. he has a history of taking a discount to stay on the team he and city he loves. Based on all the contract negotiation DL is offended by a player starting high.

How hard is it to say that negotiations are ongoing but he has alot of interest from other parties?

Wasn't a fan of him, and didn't want to see him return(unless at a major discount).

Or it's obvious that they've been discussing for some time, and Frolov hasn't budged.

Yep, now things are completely done. Now if he doesn't find anyone to give him the money he wants he can't ask to come back here for cheap. Now I don't know the figures he's asking for but if those were dramatically reduced then I don't think anyone would say they don't want him back.

Just my opinion but I don't have any idea who would even pay large money for him. I'm glad to get the news but I'm not sure we should be getting it at all.

Fro is a goner this summer, the writing had been on the wall for awhile now. I like Frolov but not at 4M+ a season in a salary cap league.

It all depends on what Frolov signs for elsewhere... that'll dictate if Lombardi made the right decision or not. If it's near or over $4MM/yr, I think you tip your hat to Frolov and say good on him for getting that kind of change given the disappointing contract year he had numbers-wise.

If he goes to the KHL... it's disappointing on a whole other level.

Anyone who does not want to play in the NHL is welcome to leave in my opinion.

This one goes right into the DL shouldn't be allowed to speak to the media pile for me.

First he starts the season by bad mouthing Fro ruining any value that he might have had on the trade market. Then he moves him into a defence first position (which Frolov excelled at). Finally, he ruins any trade value the rights to Frolov might have had before the draft.

DL can draft with the best of them and has done a good job at finding talented players that other teams have over looked at times but he should simply never, not ever ever ever ever ever (ever ever?) be allowed to speak to the media.

What a stupid thing to do with a player that hasn't said or done anything to hurt the team.

This is the kind of thing that makes me wonder if DL shouldn't have remained one of the greatest scouts of all time.

Bingo. No one goes to the KHL because it's the best league in the world. If playing in the best league in the world isn't the primary motivation... good riddance.

I think you are confusing Murray for Lombardi here.
