In all fairness, he looked better offensively with the Coyotes. However he was better defensively with the Rangers. I think he is resigned.

It's impossible to criticized this trade.

Korpikoski was unhappy here and was going to split for the KHL.

Lisin was unhappy in Phoenix and was going to split for the KHL.

Both teams traded an asset they were going to lose anyway and got a project in return. No one wins, no one loses.

Who cares? lol Korpi would be a better 3rd liner but even he is smallish for that spot. Lisin is useless.... but woohoo cap space?

i thought it was worth the gamble

I liked Korpi but he's nowhere near a make-or-break player

and i think this year he would have gotten swallowed up by the plethora of 3rd and 4th line players on this team anyway

Malhotra and Moore were better versions of both of them.

Korpikoski was likable but no great loss. Lisin is just a joke.

Korpikoski is a hockey player.
Lisin, produces a nice youtube highlight goal once or twice a year.

Big difference between them.

One will be in this league for the next decade, the other will be playing in the KHL with the rest of the one-dimensional scrubs who couldn't hack it in the NHL.

I still think Lisin deserves another shot. At this point, what do we have to lose? We invested in him. 1 year isn't enough time to fairly evaluate what you have. You have to consider various things like Coaching.

I don't like Torts much, but I see the work he's done in the past with other marginal players. Look at what Anisimov had to say about him.

Re-sign Lisin. Give the kid another shot. Hopefully our coaching staff can make the impact in Enver's game that'll keep him in this league.

yeah, not sure what Ola is getting at here...Kreider isn't a hockey genius or anything, but hes definitely smarter than Lisin out there. Id say he has average hockey IQ...nothing out of this world, but certainly not dumb.

Not only does he have low hockey IQ but he isn't nearly as "skilled" or as "talented" as he was made out to be. Lisin has awful puck handling abilities. There are more elements to "skill" than just being fast. Not once in Lisin's tenure here did I get the impression that he had anything more than average passing, shooting and puck handling abilities.

We have more than enough 3rd/4th line prospects (and if we ever need more they're readily available in the 2nd and 3rd round of the draft or as UFAs). What we don't have is top end skill guys. So when you get the opportunity to trade for a natural talent like Lisin, you do it. So what if the majority of the time it doesn't work out? I still roll the dice every day of the week and twice on Sundays.
agreed.

We had a bunch of Korpikoski clones. I liked him, but he's a 3rd liner at best (really fits better on the 4th line). Our penalty killing didn't miss Betts, Sjostrom, or Korpikoski this season. It'd be nice to have Sjostrom or Korpikoski for the shootout, but other than that, whatever. If Torts knew how to manage the shootout and didn't treat it like a joke, I don't think it'd be a problem anyway. Drury was always decent at the shootouts, and that was just another thing Tortarella didn't use him for. Gaborik was always bad at them, yet Torts sent Gaborik out to start them 9 times outta 10.

I am sure Lisin will not be given a contract and go to the KHL. Waste of a deal but what can ya do

Lisin doesn't have nearly the skill/hockey sense of MZA.

However, MZA doesn't have nearly the physical gifts of Lisin.

One or both may never thrive in the NHL, but they sink or swim on very different boats.

Frankly speaking, shouldn't we finally put to bed that Lisin has a single skill other than being able to skate fast?

If he has another skill, I've yet to see it.

hes got a pretty hard shot, but no accuracy whatsoever. he controls the puck pretty well, but makes horrendous decisions with it. he also passes fairly well when he takes the time to take a look around...i seem to recall one spectacular pass to Chris Drury last season...

I said when we got him and I'll say it again, KHL fodder. Lisin=Alexei Morozov!

I don't think he controlled the puck particularly well. He'd bust in a bunch of times and try to make a move and then lose the puck. So, he at least struggled to control the puck when moving full speed

Now that I have been reminded that he made a spectacular pass once last season, I stand corrected. He must be signed before all of the other GMs see a video of that pass and we are stuck in a bidding war.

I'd majorly lol if he turned a corner and turned into a top 6 player. He's still young, haha.

Reminds me of Hossa's brother, whatever his first name was. He had that one great move for the shoot out but had this big problem playing hockey at the same time the other team was playing.

What would other teams see in Lisin? Should NYR hold on and be patient?

I don't think so. He looks out of the flow most of the time. A guy we should love to see gone.
Remember Rico Fata?

I think he just needs to use his speed to drive the net. Thats where he can develop a little scoring and hopefully strengthen his game.
