Obviously not nearly as huge as football, but definately a huge success for Sport1.

Sad thing is that these numbers came from "eventfans" that watched their first game yesterday. Thats usually a good thing, could bring some fans to the sport and we need that in Germany. But most of them will be like "meh i knew Germany can`t be successful at hockey" and lose intrest again.

We'll have to wait and see what benefits German hockey can take away from the World Cup. Maybe we gained broader awareness and maybe some more fans will be coming to the games next season. But the DEL is just giving their best to make German hockey look hilarious again. Even if some people became interested in hockey, it's quite likely that DEL officials and teams screw up when it comes to binding fans.

Hey guys, sorry to bring up this old thread, but I was checking out Schubert's stats and noticed that he has always put up pretty solid point totals while playing with the National team. Why wasn't he included on the Olympic and WC teams? Is there a fued between him and Krupp?

The Olympics were mostly about sending a message, and Schubert playing poorly in the last World Championship. Rubbish decision, but then again, Krupp made quite a few really weird choices back then.

Didn't get a chance to change his mind, because Schubert was injured for both the Olympics and these World Championships.

Ok, sure you wont get the entire Germany to drop pussball and play hockey, but if this success will make one single future german Sundin/Forsberg/Sellane to start play hockey, that is a huge win for Hockey Germans.
