Ab McDonald

Had a chance to meet former Habs forward Alvin "Ab" McDonald on Saturday. He's listed at 6'2 or 6'3", but he looked a lot bigger than that. In his day probably considered a solid 2nd line power forward.

Three Cups in Montreal and the Cup-winning goal for the Blackhawks in '61.

Ab McDonald was hardly a power forward.

The reason that he was moved by the Canadiens was that he never developed as a potential replacement for Bert Olmstead. Smaller forwards like Dickie Moore, Marcel Bonin and Gilles Tremblay provided a greater physical presence at left wing.He was a healthy scratch during the 1960 playoffs and effectively given away to the Hawks at the June meetings.
