In any case, Leighton looked good in the series vs Habs only and only because of the Flyers' strategy against the Habs. I would have sworn Leighton would be pulled at some point in this Cup finals. It happened sooner than I would have expected.

Anyway, this first game is incredibly lousy and both goalies suck.

Habs would have won this one against either team.
He did pretty good in his games against Boston too.

Let's hope that this high scoring Finals keeps up. If it does, the losing team will be back in the market for a goalie, and even the Cup winner might consider it.

Halak and Price's value might go up for both of these teams if this offensive onslaught continues.

I like the way certain Hab "fans" watch the final and trash their "beloved" team

If you hate the Montreal Canadiens players and organization so much...

then change your allegiance... permanently

That being said, thankfully for the Hawks and Flyers they both (for now) seem to have equally shaky goaltending.

Hawks haven't had a PP yet , they'll get 1 or 2 at least in the 3rd.

Give them 4 PP's like the Flyers and this game would would not be tied.

Huet will see some action, wins the series for the Hawks and becomes MVP.

Niemi's mask keeps coming off. I'd be pissed too if I were the Flyers. If Niemi has a broken strap on the mask he should get another mask.

29:01 so far. He's going over 30. We'll see if there is OT.

I guess Philly's strategy is to play him until he dies

Oh come on! Washington embarassed Halak in Game 2, then made him look very ordinary in Game 3, forcing him to the bench for Game 4. But then the Caps THEMSELVES couldn't score more than one pergame in Games 5-6-7!

Every game is different.

Hawks win. A bad break for the Flyers on the winning goal though.

Philly is so a disciplined team....

Clearly 3 penalties should have been called to them in the 3rd.

Philly's lack of D depth after their core four is starting to catch up to them. Their core four are playing more than they should, and I think that it's starting to wear down some of them.

Surprised Niemi stayed in the whole game. Chicago's coach must have no faith whatsoever in Huet. Rushing Price may very well have been a mistake for Montreal, but it at least looks like we didn't lose a very good goalie in order to do it...

I guess the numerous 2 on 1s or odd man rushes, wide open shots in the slots and cross ice passes have had nothing to do with that...right....
To be fair, I've seen Halak/Price make these difficult saves all the time with the defensive breakdowns in front of them. Niemi and Leighton just look like garbage out there, yikes!

Why are you NOT blaming the goalies? Granted, the defensive play of both teams stank, but the goaltending wasn't much better and none of the three deserved to win. Leighton was actually horrible. It was noteworthy that the Kane-Toews-Byfuglien line accomplished nothing but amassed a cumulative minus 9. Carter, Richards, and Giroux were also lousy.

The difference between the Habs and the Hawks is that when the Hawks came into the offensive zone with speed they could actually retain puck possession. With the Habs, it was one meager shot and time to skate back in the opposite direction.

Look at the third, both teams tightened up their play and only 1 goal was scored. You can look at every individual goal tonight and say there were some weak ones, but if you take it in context of the game, both goalies got hung out to dry. One goal was on a 2 on 1, one was a breakaway, four were absolute wide open shots in the slot, one bounced off someone's face and went in the net, another one was on a point shot with a scramble at the net, ect., neither of the goalies played stellar, but they didn't have much help at all, the whole game was a slop show.
