Ok, like Langevin said in l'Antichambre several days ago, several rumors said that now that Yzerman is the new GM in Tampa, he'd like to move some big contract to make some space. So, Lecavalier just come off two of his lowest points/season number, and - 16. If you compare Lecavalier and Plekanec numbers, it's almost the same :

Lecavalier 82 GP / 24 G / 46 A / 70 PTS - 16
Plekanec 82 GP / 25 G / 45 A / 70 PTS +5

So what do you do if you were Gauthier? You sign Plekanec? You let him go? You try to get Lecavalier if he's available?

No!

1) Cap-wise, the only way we could get Vinny is if we traded an equivalent contract (ie. Gomez), so if Yzerman is looking to shed salary, we are not a match;

2) Hard working teams committed to a system and team concept end up winning and I see Viny at the exact other end of the spectrum, multi-talented, yet strictly lazy offensive player who likes to loaf around center ice waiting for breakaways;

3) In short, pass!

The only way I'd trade for Lecavalier is;

Lecavalier + Downie + 1st for Gomez + Spacek + Maxwell + 1st

Will it ever stop. It's like 6 consecutive years that his name is brought up in the summer. It's not going to happen.

Why? It doesn't make us any better because someone speaks a particular language.

We had 11 francophones on the team last year and got swept the first round. We had 3 this year and made it to the conference finals for the first time in 17 years.

I'm all in favor of having francophone players, but let's get some that don't hurt our team in the long-run like Lecavalier would.

Halak has about 30000x the value that Lecavalier does right now.

If it were up to me and I was asked to target a francophonestar who MIGHT be available at a reasonable price and reasonable contract, I would try for Patrice Bergeron. Good two-way player with courage. And much younger and cheaper than Lecavalier.

Screw that. First off if they are trading him it is to dump contract to have room to sign Stamkos so they would not take Gomez back in the trade. Also we do not need a francophone superstar by any stretch of the imagination.

I could see Toronto taking a gamble on him, just to get Kessel that center and to piss off Habs fans.

I know Burke doesnt like the big contracts, but Lecavalier might come pretty cheap because of that contract and he wants to make the playoffs... and I'm ashamed to say, but you add Lecavalier to their lineup(without subtracting much), they instantly become a playoff-caliber team.

the news over on the Bruins board is that he would agree to a trade to the Bruins - in fact he's given a list of 4 teams that he would agree a trade to and....the Habs do not make that list.

I wouldn't do it. I'm a fan of Scott Gomez and of his contribution this season and I wouldn't trade him for a Lecavalier whose production might or might not return to what it used to be. I know what to expect of Gomez; not sure what to expect from Lecavalier.

I'd trade pleks RFA, kostys for vinny in a second. They had the same amount of points but the differnce is Pleks had a career year and Vinny had an off year. If Pleks wants more then $5M is say trade his rights and the useless **** bros for Vinny.

It's now being reported that Vinny does not have Montreal on the list of teams he would accept a trade to. If correct, this puts an end to this year's version of the Lecavalier rumour.

why would you trade for Vinny when Kovalchuk will 1> cost you a couple mill more for probably 20 more goals and 20-30 more points 2> is younger and will probably keep his production longer and 3> not cost you any assets ??

Nothing would make me happier if the Leafs take-on Viny's contract....
An overpaid, aging, injury prone "star" is the type of player that would fit right-in Toronto.

1. Insane contract
2. Not as great a production recently
3. Didn't want to waive his NTC for Montreal (or so it seems.. could be a rumor)
4. Scott Gomez

Didn't Yzerman exclude him from Team Canada for the Olympics? This might actually be the year he moves.

I don't like the idea of Vinny in Bos or Tor. People on this board are so obsessed with contracts that they forget this guy has a Stanley Cup ring, is still young and perfectly capable of being a dominant player. He would be our best player instantly. Having said that, you'd have to include Gomez in the trade imo and that would leave question marks in terms of things like Gionta's worth without Gomez and the hole it would leave in the team's overall identity that they've created. I'd be very careful trading away Gomez personally.

I'm not entirely sold on bringing him here but I'd hate to see him in T.O or Boston.

I'd only trade for him if Tampa takes our worst contracts and doesn't require much of value in return. Lecavalier simply isn't a dominant player anymore and has probably the second-worst contract in the entire league. I really don't get the obsession with this guy.
