If the Bruins want to free up cap space for next season and don't want to pay Wheeler, the Rangers were very interested in signing Wheeler as a free agent two years ago so maybe they will be interested in him again. The Rangers need size throughout their line-up. Wheeler can play both wings.
Salary dump for Boston. Wouldn't give up a top young roster player or a top prospect or top pick but if Boston wanted get something, then the Rangers should explore it.
Definitely would be a good move (depending on who Boston wants back) but Sather won't do it because he's a young right handed shot (which the team could use), is 6'5" and >200lbs, and has more than enough time to possibly develop into a premier power forward!!
Sounds like a potential deal between the Bruins and the Leafs (knowing the way Burke likes to build his teams).
I'd take the deal of the #15 and the rights to Wheeler for the #10 and run.
Suppose the Rangers want to move salary...does something like the rights to Girardi and a small/moderate piece for the rights to Wheeler make sense? Looking for some input from the Boston fans reading this
I remember when Gretzky went off the board and drafted this kid 6 years ago. He's been a 20/20 guy his first 2 years. Odd how his + - dropped from +36 to -4 this past year though. What is Wheelers upside? He's still only 24.
I think Wheeler could be a solid 2nd line forward that pots 25 goals and creates space on the ice for his teammates. He's not a true power-forward in the sense that he's ridiculously gritty, but he's not charmin soft either.
