Chris was a real late bloomer who grew almost six inches during his final
year of juniors. He is a very skilled player who can be a dominant defenseman as he gets stronger. Chris is an excellent passer who moves the puck very well and has a great shot. — Coach Wilson
A deeper look inside this RIT team reveals its own best-kept secret. Freshman defenseman Chris Tanev logs a lot of ice time and plays on the top defense pairing for RIT with All-American candidate Dan Ringwald. We spoke with Tanev about the excitement surrounding the Tigers, his transition to college hockey and other aspects about RIT.
Seems like a move to acquire some new blood for the defense.
Tanev listed at 21 years old, 6'2", 185 lbs, shoots right, lots of upside.

Meh. Future useful player or Daniel Rahimi v2.0? Oh well. Can't go wrong adding dmen.
Welcome, Chris Tanev. Please me at least moderately serviceable.
Difference being Rahimi could barely skate and had absolutely no offensive upside (never scored more than 3 goals or 8 points at any level in the past 6 years).
I'll take the D-depth any day. RH shot and late 89' born is a big bonus. It's like getting an extra mid round pick for just money (mid round picks that we are missing this year (2nd + 3rd)).

doubt anyone has actually seen him play, but are we expecting him to be with the Moose next year? Manitoba's blueline might be getting a bit too crowded as far as rookie pro dmen go. can't see there being enough ice time to go around, assuming at least a couple AHL vets so the team can remain competitive.
Sounds like the type of player you can account on. *boom boom*
Hopefully he's a smart kid if he's studying finance. I like intelligent defensive players, smarts can make up for lack of physical skills to some degree especially in D. Lack of D brains can kill a team: Bieksa & stupid plays come to mind.
If he's a late bloomer physically might just be a steal, at least we are getting back our trade picks by stealth.
Yeah I would expect him to be on the Moose. This could be a good chunk of a very young Manitoba D core next season: Tanev, Sauve, Connauton, Oberg, Baumgartner, Ellington (up and down with Salmon Kings)
If Mike Funk gets over PCS he could be in the mix as well.

Anyone else getting the feeling of succession and progression planning? Gillis seems to get loading up on D that should make the team around the time Salo and (hopefully the new D we get this year) are at the ends of their contracts. If just 2 of the many young D make the team in the next 1-3 years we are looking good, 2 FA + Edler+Ehrhoff+2 newbies in 3 years time, with another 1-2 more coming through after that it looks good.
Seems like a plan...from Nucks management.
plan+nucks=twilight zone.

Capgeek has us at 41 players for next season and 10 of those are RFA's.
Our depth chart on defence as of right now looks something like this (including RFA's):
