Dustin Brown Interview

Here is a Dustin Brown interview from today.. He mentions that he expects the Kings to be a Cup contender next year, talks about who the most skilled teammate he has ever had, who the toughest goalie and player is to face etc..

Quote:
Who is the toughest goalie to beat and who is the toughest player to play against?

Dustin Brown: The toughest goalie at least this past year was Ilya Bryzgalov (Phoenix). We played them six times, and he made it tough everytime. The toughest player to play against against is a toss up between Scott Niedermayer and Nick Lidstrom. They aren’t physically hard to play against but they are so patient and smart, it’s difficult to beat them an also hard to get pressure on them.

That interview made me miss Ziggy and just increased my salivation for Kovalchuk. I love Brown, he is a good leader, and will likely be a franchise 2nd line winger for us for many years to come.

That's a bit of a contradiction.

Not really, it just means someone who has cemented themselves in a role, that is irreplaceable, and indicative to a given franchise. If you need to find franchise depth players, just look at the Red Wings. They have had work horses on the bottom 6 that have carried the team year after year through the playoffs before (Draper, Maltby, Holmstrom). Something I hope Simmonds amounts to. Brown is a talented player, will likely get more first line time in his future, but his skillset is better suited for the second line, and the fact that he is a franchise player for us is indisputable.

Palffy was truly amazing.

What he did in 2002-2003 is one of the most amazing seasons in recent NHL memory.

Look at that team...how he put up 85 pts in 76 games is remarkable.

I love Brown too, but I don't think he's playing up to his potential.

Count me in as one of the people who think the "C" has hurt his game. Unfortunately, there's really no one else to wear it.

Agreed here. That thing has been an anchor on his chest. He use to destroy players and that's what made him effective during those games. Now he gets run over by guys like Stevie Sullivan and can barely keep his balance. His hands are even worse. He handles the puck like a hand grenade and when he finally does control it, it's a shot and wide. I love DB's passion but he's being asked a lot. He needs to put some weight back on and play a bottom six roll.

As for captains? Zeus, Greene, Smyth, Stoll (if not trade bait) can all fill in until DB is ready.....if ever?

I think its just concistency that is Brown's problem. i mean he plays well for 3 games then starts to go down. Like he played well in the Olympics but he sucked after getting back in Kings games.

You can't expect these guys to go 100% every shift for 82 games and then have game left for the playoffs....
