Canucks Sign F Anton Rodin

I guess he'll play for the Moose. Out of curiosity who owns his CHL rights?

Also he looks like a girl.

I guess because he's played in the SEL, he can play in the AHL?

Better he play a year in the Swedish Elite League than in the CHL.

And yes, he does look like a girl...a female elf in fact.

Terribly researched. Ignoring the fact players not drafted out of the CHL can play in the AHL at any time, Rodin's 20 in November, which means he'd be an overager in the CHL.

Coincidentally, there was a press conference today announcing a hockey hockey summit in the summer where the issue of improving the women's game will be discussed.

Is this person a key piece in the validity of women's hockey puzzle?

Can't really go wrong no matter where he plays. AHL would be beneficial as far as learn the NA game, but playing full time in the SEL wouldn't hurt either. Excited about this guy and if that article is correct about him being over 6 feet tall now and comfortable playing at 190lbs, he's a bigger kid than I thought.

"Canucks Sign F" is all I see.

I hope F fills our hole on D.

He isn't 190 right now. He is still about 15 lbs off. But this is what i've been trying to explain to people who call him a midget. He grew a bit this past year.

And i thought this was some sort of joke thread with "Canucks sign F."

That was my fault. Got interrupted at the computer and accidentally hit enter.

Nice to see Rodin sign! I would have to think he's Moose bound given the Canucks were a bit vocal with their displeasure over his lack of ice-time with Brynas last year, and also the fact that the youth movement appears to be on in Winnipeg who need forwards badly at the moment.

The article claims some sort of deadline was approaching, but as Rodin was an '09 draftee, the Canucks still had years to sign him if I'm not mistaken.

Should be a treat to see all of these guys at Training Camp this fall! I'm loving the depth we're slowly building.

As if camp will not be fun to follow next season.

Very happy about the signing.

He really could double for a female Russian Tennis player.

Yeah I believe the reason he dropped (and the reason Canucks thought he would be a steal) was because he was 5' 11" and ultra light pre draft (ilk of Zetterberg) they felt that he could be a good player but if he filled into his body a little bit more he would be a GREAT pick. (remember he was supposed to be our first rounder)

Eh...I don't know. He needs to learn what it's like to be hit constantly.

Cool, I wasn't to get him signed for next season. I'm sure the plan is for him to play in the AHL next season, or else why sign him. He does has the option to return to the SEL though.

I see people saying that all the time, and I'm not saying it is untrue, but has there even been any concrete evidence of that? I've seen article and heard people say the Canucks were considering drafting him in the first round, but never anything definitive.

^I can't find the article, but I distinctly remember reading that someone from the Canuck brass stated they were so high on Rodin, they were contemplating using their 1st on him for fear he wouldn't be there at their second round pick. But when Schroeder fell to them, they couldn't pass up the opportunity so they picked Schroeder and crossed their fingers that Rodin would be there by the time their second pick came around.

Found the article.

Quote:
The Vancouver Canucks had Anton Rodin rated so highly they were considering taking him in the first round of the 2009 NHL draft.

When Jordan Schroeder came available the way he did, they passed on the young Swedish centre and held their breath -- the most difficult moments coming when Detroit took their pick, which turned out to be Landon Ferraro, another player not expected to fall that far.

Needless to say, when Rodin was still there when the Canucks' pick in the second round came, there was considerable excitement because everyone in the organization -- as well as the other set of advisors on young players Mike Gillis developed when he was an agent -- were all wildly excited about this kid.

I've just never seen anything that outright says that if Schroeder hadn't dropped to the Canucks they were taking Rodin.

Anyways, it doesn't really matter, I've just been curious about it for some time. Once I learned who he was and saw a bit of him I was pleased with the Rodin selection and his development has seemed very good so far.

Correct me if I'm wrong but... Rodin is.. eligible to play in the AHL (because he obviously wasn't drafted out of the CHL) but could still play in the CHL (not as an overager) and is too old to play in the World Junior?

He is saying that just because the Canucks had Rodin ranked in the first round doesn't mean they would have taken him if Schroeder wasn't available. Rodin could have been the Canucks 30th ranked player for all we know.

Maybe Gilles had Rodin in the first round, but had Ferraro before him or something like that. It's possible for a team to consider a player a first round draft pick and still prefer other players ahead of them.
