UFA.

Crazy idea?
I wouldn't mind signing him, but obviously we'd need to clear some cap room as he'll cost 1.5 mil or more per year(versus the 700-800k of Trotter White Desharnais etc).

He's probably good enough that he'll command a bit of a premium on the market. He has some fame and playoff experience. I don't think we can afford any "premium" players, we have to look more for hidden gems on the scrapheap, bargain bin side of the UFA market, if anything.

I agree, maybe sign a couple of forwards, maybe a depth d-man mid summer for a "scrap heap" price like Afinogenov Sydor McKee Sidenberg Cowan Yelle Tanguay Prospal etc

He's one of the few players that I hate, that I'd still hate to have on my team. I put him up there with Avery in terms of how much of a piece of absolute **** this guy is. He should go to fashion school with Avery this summer and sign with NYC.

He's a cheapshot artist, not just an agitator.

Even if he can guarantee a cup win, I don't want that type of player associated with the Habs. Why don't we bring back Marchment too while we're at it..

People should realize this ain't a question of "Do you like the player", but more like "Could this player bring an additional weapon to our arsenal?". The obvious answer is yes, damn yes he could.

The teams winning the Stanley Cup are NOT the most talented ones, but the ones who can play in more different ways. And a guy like Cooke (maybe with another gritty, bottom-6 guy) would give us another tool in our toolbox.

How about Carcillo. He doesn't seem to be a favorite of Laviolette. Maybe the Habs could nab him. And he's a good hockey player.

I can't stand Cooke, but then I imagine most NHLers feel the same way.

And that could be useful.

With us having Laps and Cooke on the same team, we'd really get under the opposition's skin in pretty much every playoff series, and even some regular season games. We could really turn that to our advantage.

I really dislike Cooke, but I'd consider him just for this affect alone.

Cooke is one guy who would make it hard for me to cheer for the Habs unless we bring him to bury him in the minors forever.

Personally, I wouldn't want Matt Cooke on our team. But more importantly, I wonder how his teammates react to him. I remember Bill Guerin disapproving of his hit on Savard.

Add to that the fact that we need help on top 6, much more than bottom 6.

The bottom 6 was a big problem all year until Moore arrived and JM finally put him at center, they could definitely use a couple of physical wingers.

Matt Cooke would be an awesome addition to our team. He hits to hurt. That is something we're lacking on our team. On top of that he plays a very good cycle game and has decent stickhandling skills for a 3rd/4th liner. I would love if we signed him.

Personally, I suggested Artyukhin as an add-on. But we do have some players in Hamilton who will try to make it. Guys like Ryan White, Brock Trotter and maybe David Desharnais. Add Moore, Lapierre, Pyatt and Moen to the lot, that's a lot of people.

Also, consider that if we add a top 6, and surely we must, then Pouliot might find himself playing on the 3rd or 4th line.
