Simple.

"Jim Joyce is one of the most well-respected umpires in our game. It was a bang-bang play, and it didn't affect that outcome of the game."

So, Bud, was he safe our out?

"Like I said, it was a bang-bang play."

He was going to call him out too, his initial reaction was, out. Then inexplicably he decides safe. That was just so brutal, haha.

Just replace the first base umpire with a robot already.

What a crime. Selig will of course blindly defend the official.

He was definitely going to call him out. I mean, tie goes to the runner, I know that, but it wasn't even close.

I say suspend the ump without pay for a while, I am sorry, sometimes these guys have to pay for this nonsense.

If you **** up at your job on such a grand scale you would be reprimanded would you not?

But the guy above posted exactly what Selig will say.

Now that's getting ridiculous. He blew a call, happens all the time. Just so happened this blown call messed up a perfect game. Oh well.

I'm all for ditching umps and replacing them with technology, but the guy made a mistake. Let's calm down.

Absolute robbery by the ump. Has to be one of the biggest botched calls ever.

He made a mistake on a call that a guy from the upper deck could call correctly.

Circumstance is a *****, he should be held accountable for robbing a pitcher of something that has only been done 20 times.

This doesnt happen all the time with one out to go from a perfect game. If this was a close play I would say what you are saying, it wasn't, this ump is a ****ing moron.

It's a perfect game, people have a right to be mad. I was actually laughing the 2nd time I saw it, it's just that bad.

If you make a mistake on such a large scale you should be punished. Maybe if he is docked a few weeks pay he would pay more attention to the 9th inning of a perfect game. I am tired of some of these guys being infallible just because its a system based on human error.

There is no way this will happen though, thanks to Selig and the awful umpire union.

If this happened to a Braves pitcher Jim Joyce would be dead and his head would be on display on my fireplace mantle.

Quality is crap, but even look at the runner's reaction

It's a baseball game..

Sad thing is, the ump's week is going to be filled with actual threats like this

I think that's because of the slight juggling of the ball in the mitt really, dollars to donuts that's why he called him safe because he didn't think Gallaragga had possession of the ball, because the throw and foot clearly beat him.

It is just a shame how one of the biggest personal achievements in baseball has to be ruined by this.

Instant replay needs to be implemented, make it kind of like the NFL, have each manager get to ask for one replay per game, and have it done off-site, ala Toronto in the NHL.

Why on 0-2 counts does KRod always put balls in the strike zone?

Theory 1) Arrogance
Theory 2) Underpants
Theory 3) Raw Stupidity

"I thought he beat the throw. I was convinced he beat the throw, until I saw the replay."

Time to retire you dope. I can almost buy a "I thought he bobbled it as he crossed the bag.." but not what Joyce said.

Ugh.
