Its just really negative to think we are 3 years away from winning a playoff series. No, its stupid. If you turn out to be right and we can't win a single playoff series for 3 years, you should be ashamed and we should all be rooting for another team.
Why? Our core would still be extremely young. Keith and Seabrook have 3+years on DD and JJ. It's going to take time and patience from everyone, myself included.
Everybody keeps using Chi as an example of what this Franchise can be but I see one big problem. We don't have an sniper like Kane anywhere in this franchise. You can compare a lot of people in Chi to LA but we don't have that shooter.

I'd like to see an estimated salary figure with Kovy, DD, Kopi, JJ, and an entire roster for a few years from now.

If the Kings end up against the cap next year, they could buy out Smyth and save $3 million against the cap. They could use that money for Johnson if needed. Smyth should be a 2nd line winger next season and maybe Moller or Loktionov can take his spot in a couple of years.

Schenn may very well replace Brown then. I just don't see any #2 centers just waiting to be signed. You would lose Simmonds or Johnson in a trade for one as well. Teams just don't give top centers away.
I still don't see where Kovalchuk fits. CHI is a prime example of needing 4 or 5 defenseman that can move the puck and 4 solid lines. Depth> 1 dimensional superstars.
If Kopitar spent his entire career in Atlanta, everyone would be calling him "one dimensional" right now.
Kopitar took the time to learn the defensive side. Kovalchuk still floats.
Because he spent the first 7 1/2 years of his career doing whatever he wanted on chicken **** teams. If Kopitar can learn to play defense(post-Crawford), so can Kovalchuk.

People are saying that Stoll is not one dimensional because he is at least two dimensional? The nerve. As for me, I have never met him but I have seen him live and he looks pretty 3D to me.
His +10 this season says hi and the only thing that floats is the puck hitting the back of the net.
The only time +/- is relevant to me is during fantasy hockey. Kovalchuk floats almost as bad as Pavel Bure did but hopefully TM can get more out of him.
He doesn't usually lie out right like some other Kings brass (Liewieke), but he leaves himself a lot of outs which each statement. They are so well crafted, you can read almost anything into his statements.
Don't get me wrong, I love reading his comments and enjoy the effort in trying to decipher the true meaning behinds his words, but he uses a lot of double speak to confuse the jury, i.e. fans.

Double speak to confuse people is only used by piss-poor lawyers who can't formulate the necessary arguments to clarify the issues in the way they want a jury to see them.
There is a big difference. JDM is right in that DL leaves himself what we call "wiggle room." What you need to do as fans is learn to read between the lines of what DL says and remember that he will not give away his position for exposition to the media and general public if it will inhibit his chances of securing the player or making the move he wants. That is not double speak, but a highly educated person walking (speaking) a fine line.
Ther are alot of less recent examples of DL saying things which later haven't been borne out by his subsequent actions, but that has very little to do with his education as a lawyer.
I don't believe a word he says to the press anymore. I just enjoy the flair.
