The return is obviously based on who we'd be trading to. I'd imagine a team like SJ would want halak because he's proven more in NHL playoffs. They need that...badly. However, other teams, who are perhaps younger and not necessarily big time contenders now will take Price based on potential.
What are the odds Halak gets hot again next playoffs? Are they really higher than Price's? Goalies are highly unpredictable, and rarely consistant.
I think it's obvious we should keep both, unless:
A) The salary demands of one are outrageous
B) We get an offer we can't refuse

You have to ask yourself the question, do you think Price will be as good or better than Halak in 2-3 years..... with all the experience he got at only 22, I think the answer is yes.

Keeping both is the only safe option right now. Let things sort themselves out next season. The slight risk there is that one of them could stunk it up and reduce his value. This is going to be very interesting to follow this summer.

Yes, and we'll see what happens next year if one of them isnt really good. They won't lost their trade value in 40-50 games.

You know, I'm a bit surprised that people here still have so much faith in Price.
I think he's going to be a solid No. 1 goalie, but I have real doubts that he's going to be as good as a lot of other people here think he will be. Why are you guys such big believers in Price?
I mean, Price wouldn't be the first highly drafted goalie to not end up a superstar. Rick DiPietro was taken 1st overall, and he's just a solid No. 1 goalie. He's not one of the best goalies in the game. Kari Lehtonen is much the same.
Price has proven very little yet, while Halak has proven a lot.
And what shows true potential is evidence that you can get it done (i.e. recent past performance), and we already have that evidence with Halak, and in spades.
I don't want to be a downer, but I think we overrate our prospects sometimes, and that it sets us up for a fall. In Price's case, it might also be contributing to overly high expectations being thrown on his shoulders.

The thing is... Goaltending is our strong position, and Price/Halak both are young and have a very good potential... I've said it again and again and I repeat it once again: We can't go into next season with the same lineup AND with the two same goaltenders, hoping for one of them to do what Halak did last season. If one or the other falls/doesn't get a lot of games, we'll end up losing him for not that much... We'll lose the chance to deal one of them away for a very good return, and all that, for one more year of having 2 goalies who we know are both capable of handling #1 duties.
I'm tired of that "go for the safer choice" mentality. Each and every ****ing time we've done so, we ended up in the loser side (Keeping Souray, not trading Higgins for Hossa, drafting "safe picks" such as Chipchura, Fisher, or yet, McDonagh/Pacioretty with 2 1st rounders in the same draft). At some point you've got to put yourself on the line and do what you think will end up being good for the team. And right now, I'd take a good top-6 players capable of playing 82 games before a guy who'd likely play 35 games for us next season.
