As an example, Groulx was his team's best d-man and one of his teammates was signed by Colorado. One of the best in the Q playoffs too. I guess he'll make another team happy to get him.

Summer/prospect camp? Don't know. The Sharks have been relatively quiet about those camps (including who's attending) since the lockout. Want to give the guys a place to work on things without external observations/commentary/pressure.

Fall pre-season camp? No.

And I have no idea if Schwab has spent some one-on-one time in Finland (or anywhere) with him.

Another story on Wingels' signing.

He was the CCHA top defensive forward last season. (Perhaps the Sharks need another Selke candidate? )

Wow I'm surprised we didn't sign Zackrisson. I've seen some videos and he looks like he knows how to score goals. He skates fast and is a decent passer and has a nice shot.

here's the first search that came up on youtube.

I am surprised as well, as a 67s watcher. If Demers was a couple inches taller and maybe a bit more aggressive, he'd actually be quite a good prospect in his own zone. Even still, he so rarely makes a mistake, and brings enough all-round skill that I am surprised the Sharks didn't sign him to see what a couple years in the AHL could do for him. In my opinion he is at least as good a prospect as Derek Joslin was when he graduated (and definitely better than his teammate Anthony Nigro who got signed by St. Louis), so it's a bit of a head-scratcher.

Yes and Schwab says Sateri has been proactive in trying to tailor his game to North American ice surfaces.

Maybe that's what they saw and didn't like? Joslin has been kind of a bummer for San Jose. He just hasn't found his niche at the NHL level.

Thats great news. I've seen Sateri a couple times and it seems his positioning and footwork are steadily improving.

(Trying to get length clarified. The Sharks announcement states "standard ELS" deal.)
Actually, ELS "age" is based on the players age on Sept 15 in the year he signs his ELS SPC.

Quote:
9.2 Age of Players. As used in this Article, "age," including "First SPC Signing
Age," means a Player's age on September 15 of the calendar year in which he signs an
SPC, regardless of his actual age on the date he signs such SPC.
So Wingels is considered a 22 yo and it's a two year ELS deal. INCH just probably messed up.

Max,

Any chance you can get the story on Zackirsson? I am so annoyed we let him go. Speed, offensive ability, not bad defensively, and a legitimate player in the SEL. Can't believe we have given up both Bonino and Zackirsson for nothing (or worse in Bonino's case).

I think maybe Zariksson's injury influenced Doug's decision. It must be pretty bad. Or maybe he was annoyed that he wouldn't play in the AHL.

I agree - I'm no Nostradamus but Bonino was a guy I was really upset to lose with the Anaheim deal and I've chirped about Zackrisson as much as any other prospect not named Stalock or Petrecki in the past 12 months. I can't help but feel there's more to this than meets the eye as his numbers have been really encouraging.

I'll have more from the draft on this one. I'm anxious to find out more myself.

I don't understand these rules at all, but do we get a compensatory pick or anything for him at some point since he never came over? Or is that only 1st rounders?

There are only compensatory picks for unsigned 1st round picks in the current CBA.

(So, although the Sharks pick 28th in first round, that position may change if there are any compensatory picks given, in the second round. But I've heard nothing, two days after deadline, so think there will be none this season.)

When do we hear about White, because if they sign him, but not Zackrisson, won't that start a riot?

I'm pretty sure White still has two years of NCAA eligibility.

White '11 graduate. Sharks have until 8/15/11 to sign him; any compensatory pick (should the Sharks not sign him) wouldn't happen until 2012.
