La - Bos

To LA - Bergeron

To BOS - Stoll and Williams

Kings get a 2nd line center and save about 2.35 million in cap space which can be used to sign a top winger come July 1st.

It would be a gamble given Bergeron's injury past and he is scheduled to be an UFA in the summer of 2011. But it's not like Williams is playing 82 games a year.

Thoughts?

I'd do that in a heartbeat but the Bruins wouldn't even consider it.

I read something last week that BOS may trade for Bergeron for a scoring winger. I was thinking Williams may fill that need and Stoll can center there 3rd line.

As a fan of the Kings I'm on that trade like a fat girl on cheesecake.

However, you're missing several important things about that trade.
1) The Bruins are in no position to be taking on any salary. They need to sign five to seven guys and have only about four million to do it with.
2) The "injury past" you refer to has to do with one vicious hit by Randy Jones. Williams is much more of a risk.
3) Bergeron is exceptionally cheap for the production he provides. He's younger than Stoll and has a history of producing more.
4) Bergeron is one of the best defensive centers in the game. There's a very good reason why he was picked for the Canadian Olympic team.
5) Bergeron is a huge locker room guy. If Chara wasn't captain Bergeron would be.
6) Bergeron is WILDLY popular in Boston. Chiarelli would be dragged out in the street and shot if he traded Bergeron under just about any circumstances.

To be perfectly honest I would say the Kings would have to throw in the third rounder rather than the Bruins to make that trade more equitable. Also youngblood, the trade you're talking about would be a premier first line winger. Williams doesn't fit that bill.

This does not sound like a player with much value. Sounds like Deader. What happens on his next concussion?

From Wikipedia:

Early in the 2007–08 season, on October 27, 2007, Bergeron was hit from behind by Philadelphia Flyers defenceman Randy Jones. The hit caused his head to hit the end-boards, knocking him unconscious. He laid motionless on the ice for several minutes before being wheeled off on a stretcher and taken to Massachusetts General Hospital. He suffered a broken nose and a grade-three concussion, while Jones received a two-game suspension by the NHL.[1] Bergeron made his first public statements regarding the injury on November 8.[2]

On January 19, 2008, the Boston Globe reported that he had been sent on a vacation by Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli and that he would likely sit out for the remainder of the season as his recovery had regressed.[3] In early March 2008, Patrice started preliminary on-ice practice with Bruins goaltender Manny Fernandez, who was himself recovering from knee surgery.[4] He steadily progressed into full contact practices in early April, aiming for a playoff return against the Montreal Canadiens in the opening round, but was held back by team doctors.[5]

In mid-June 2008, Bergeron was reported as being symptom-free during off-season training.[6] He participated in the Bruins' summer development camp, typically for Bruins prospects, with Fernandez,[7] before joining the Bruins main training camp.[8] He returned to action with the Bruins in the 2008 pre-season opening game on September 22, 2008 against the Montreal Canadiens, an 8-3 victory played in "neutral territory" in Halifax, Nova Scotia.[9]

After regular season play began, Bergeron scored his first goal since his concussion on October 23, 2008, in a 4-2 home game loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.[10] On December 20, 2008, in a game against the Carolina Hurricanes, Bergeron collided with opposing defenceman Dennis Seidenberg and suffered an apparent neck or head injury. He lay face down on the ice while being attended to by team trainers and eventually left the ice under his own power, though he did not return to the game. He was diagnosed with another concussion and placed on the injured reserve. He was released from the hospital the day after the collision.[11]

Bergeron is the kind of player DL drafted Schenn to be. Would you trade Schenn for Stoll and Williams if he pans out? Yeah he has injury issues but still worth more than this proposal, especially when you consider JW's health.

The Bruins would probably get a much, much better offer than Stoll and Williams for Bergeron. Despite his injuries he is a tremendous player.

Bergy for Stoll and Williams is an improvement but why would Boston take on more salary? We still don't have a front end player to play with Kopitar. I rather trade for Carter, he can also play wing and is signed for 2 more years then becomes a RFA.

uhmmmmmmmm....................

we have a player like that in Jared Stoll.
They have similar numbers and Bergeron costst us 1 mill more than Stoll.

The only reason for that package would be a salary drop.
I don't see why Boston would do this favor

This should be a no brainer for Lombardi should he ever strike it rich enough to hear this proposal...

Let me ask you this. Would the Kings trade Dustin Brown for Michael Ryder and Marco Sturm?

Precisely. Which would be the equivalent of the Bruins trading Bergeron for Stoll and Williams. This isn't Mike Milbury they're dealing with here (unfortunately).

You do realize defense is a part of hockey too right? I've read a lot of your posts, and you seem to think throwing defense out the window and loading our offense with finesse and talent will win us the cup. Remind me, what happened to the Caps this season?

I have a strong feeling that Stoll will be the wipping boy on these boards. I don't understand the hate for him. He brings so many things the team that no one else has, just like Greene. He's not flashy, but you need a Stoll on your team to win the cup.

I partially agree with you, it is just that Stoll does not have what it takes to be a 2nd line center. And right now I think people are not realizing that he is a 3rd liner at most at this point of his career. On the 3rd line we have Zeus so there is no place for Stoll right now and I am sure people want Zeus a lot more than Stoll on that 3rd line. IMO, Stoll only brings face-offs and a shot(if put on net which was unlikely this last season). That is all....
