Better be 100%. Always liked Byers, still think he would be a solid lower-line player.

If it's a 1 year deal(probably is) and Byers doesn't play 74 NHL games this coming season,Byers will be a group 6 UFA next summer.

Not surprising. Probably not much of a raise.

You would think he would make sure that is the deal so that if he doesnt get a fair shot he can leave.

Likely a 2 way deal. Byers spent 15 days in the NHL in 09-10. Pro-rated portion of his one way salary in 10-11 based on 15 NHL days counts against the summer cap.

This probably means we wont be resigning Prust. I like Byers. He does his job almost as effectively as Prust.

NHL minimum for 2010-11 is $500k which was Byers NHL one way last season.

I wouldn't say that at all... resigning Byers to a 2-way deal is a no brainer. Hopefully he earns a spot, but it is no guarantee. I would be surprised if Prust isn't back...

I would really like to see Byers on the ice with Prust. There is no need for Shelley to play every night, give Byers 40-50 games and keep him up with the NHL squad.

Seems like we'll never see Byers though... You have Voros, Prust, and Shelley clogging up the wing positions on the 4th line....

I agree. Shelley's an old man. He probably couldn't play the whole season anyway. Plus, we're not going to deny a guy like Byers a spot because of Jody Shelley. That would be terrible asset management.

Probably the 13th forward this year, hopefully it's sub-650k.

That's what I'm talking about.

Byers better get a REAL shot at the roster. He's going to be a solid player for us long term.

Weise, too.

I love those guys.

Weise, Byers, Prust, and Callahan taking up the bottom six wing positions is nice.

Just stack up that top six with talent. Gaborik, Dubinsky, Anisimov (and Kreider, Stepan, Grachev, 2010 pick).

And we should be OK long term.

I would like to see either Weise or Byers make the team. I doubt both would make it but I would be happy if one of them made the team out of training camp. I hope they dont resign Shelley. I thought Torts wanted to get younger.

Thats cool I guess. I'd take Byers over Voros any day of the week. Its just that with Byers, Weise, Prust, Avery, Callahan, and then include the possibility of Shelley, we have too many bottom 6 wingers.

Maybe Sather intends to go into camp either with Avery at 2nd line LW, or with Byers as the potential 13th forward to take over when we play non-goonish team

That's a crazy statement. The only thing Byers has done is been sent home early from 3 consecutive training camps. Consistently underwhelming and incapable of raising his game above some shockingly poor competition.

Honestly, even if I'm way off base, the organization just doesn't seem that interested in Byers. They've never cared to even shove him into the lineup for the sake of doing so and were consistently in search of bottom half talent that essentially made him expendable. Why waste the contract and the money?

I would rather see Weiss get another year in the AHL.

Shelley is definitely coming back, especially after Sather's recent words in his interview with Brooks. It does seem that now Prust probably wont be back which is really disappointing to me. I guess we will see within the next month though.

I'd like to see him make the team as he is essentially a better version of Voros.
