Dodger just drafted Zach Lee who was the number one recruited HS QB and has said he is dead set to go to LSU as a QB. Peter Gammons is beside himself right now on the draft broacast saying he knew McCourt was punting the pick because he won't be paying in the draft. He said "McCourt, who refused to allow the Dodgers to offer arbitration to 4 players because he couldn't afford draft pick compensation is now taking the easy way out with the drafting of Lee". Gammonds doesn't throw stuff like that out lightly.

WOW!!! The kid told every MLB team that he WILL NOT BE PLAYING BASEBALL yet. He said he won't sign and will revisit baseball in his future. What an absolute scam. McCourt should not be allowed to run a MLB team.

Where exactly did he go in the draft? If it's a low draft pick, I don't mind taking a flyer on Lee.

Late first round. Doesn't matter though, once he goes to school it is a wasted draft pick as he will not ever play for us.

You're kidding me!!! With a first round pick!!!??? I REALLY hope McCourt knows something that no one else does because he's gonna have to sell the team with that kind of bonehead move.

There is a spending freeze that McCourt implimnted. He has cut everything from office personel, players, scouting, draft resources. Meanwhile, he ruined Dodger Stadium to add more seats, raised the ticket costs in a mind numbing fashion, cut handicap parking for more expensive VIP parking and made the cost of parking double since he's shown up. You should see some of the articles that have come up \due to hi divorce. His lifestyle is rediculous.

The reason why Gammons is so upset is the fact that McCourt is ruining the integrity of baseball by some of these moves.

Don't forget that BS with the Yankees vs Dodgers this season where the only way you can get a ticket is by buying a block of tickets for other games.

... The Dodgers always added VIP seats along the foul lines during the playoffs and World Series, and McCourt just made them permanent seats. And I don't think those seats are an eyesore at all, they cut down on what was a ridiculously large amount of foul territory and give the field a much more classic look, much like the old Yankee Stadium. I would have added the new seats too, if I were the owner. I also don't mind that McCourt re-did the club level and added the luxury boxes; I would have done that as well.

As for the prices and the over-abundance of ads everywhere, I don't really blame McCourt too much for that, as you can see that epidemic in every ballpark in MLB. At least the place is still called Dodger Stadium, which is more than I can say for 90% of the other parks.

The O'Malleys used to pride themselves on calling Dodger baseball "the best buy in town", but the days of going to a ballgame (or any top-level pro sporting event for that matter) for a reasonable price have long been over. As long as the rich and the corporate-connected are willing to pay the ridiculous prices, why blame the owner of the team for raising them? It's just supply and demand. If and when the Dodgers stop drawing 3.7 million per season, maybe the prices will drop, but attendance stayed solid during a recession and I don't see it falling any time soon.

Agreed.

Honorable mentin has to go to Ray Allen for his stellar shooting.

after Sunday, he's bound to miss some shots tonight. Laws of average...But I didn't think he's going to be 0-13 though.

Kobe didn't shoot well. Still though, there are great advantages to having him on the court even when he shoots that poorly because Boston can't bring help defense onto anyone else. He played strong defense and rebounded the ball well, which helped.

Was it Garnett that said they weren't coming back to LA?

I'm sure he hopes he's wrong now.

Hehe, the Lee drafting reminds me of something Lombardi would do, without the money saving aspect. It was the 28th pick of the first round, there are 2 scenarios that could prove this pick to be a net gain.

Scenario 1: Lee shocks everyone and signs with the Dodgers, they get a top 5-15 talent a the end of the round.

Scenario 2: Allot more likely than it predecessor, but could also turn out to be a boone in the long run, Lee doesnt sign... Hear me out, this was a weak draft, not to say horrible but I'd say mediocre at best. Next year on the other hand is said to be much much deeper, by Lee not signing we would get a sandwich pick inbetween rounds next year, which from the look of things is a better shot at a talented player.

Scenario 2 is where it just seems exactly like a DL move, overall I think it's a pretty crafty and potentially underhanded move, but if you're not toeing the line then you arnt trying your hardest. A low risk high reward move right there, and for the record I am not in any way a McBroke supporter. AEG needs to buy the Dodgers. That is why I'm trying to look at this as purely asset management, as opposed to $$.

I came on this thread to say that I haven't yet been to my annual outing to Dodger stadium, but reading just the few post on this page made me question whether I want to go at all.

As a kid I was spoiled as my neighbors had field boxes at Aisle 8 Row Box D and I would go often. The after law school, it used to be that a bunch of my friends would go to opening day every year and a few of the businessman specials (day games when we would all play hookey from work, sit in the sun and drink crappy beer all afternoon).

Last year I went on some seats from a vendor and sat next to Hillary Swanc (filter wont let you spell it with a K) (No, she was not my date, but a man can dream). This year, I havent followed a stitch of baseball, and now, don't know that I care to go. Maybe by August I'll regain some desire, but I honestly dont know.

Mind giving George Sherrill back to the O's? We suck.

Also, I was listening to White Zombie just now. Does he still come out to "Blood, Milk, and Sky"???

His value has plummeted since becoming a dodger. He was one of the best closers in the A.L., only to be an efficient setup man for the dodgers last year. And from the games that I've seen this year, he's more of a middle relief/left handed specialist now.

?????

Posts like this seriously make me thing you just want to argue; be a dick sometimes.

Do you know what Sherrill's ERA was for last season? 0.65
Yes, under one.

This season yes, He's sucked. Other GMs are smart enough to realize He has been hurt and his value should not be hurt because of it.

He's been a great eighth inning guy for the Dodgers outside of his crappy start to the season this year.

Lol!!!

It isn't that I'm being a dick but rather that you have your mangina moments.

What I said was that Sherill's stock has gone down since being a dodger because he was a closer in the A.L. and he's merely being utilized as a setup man as in all of last season and this year as a mid relief/lefty specialist. How can his stock not go down when he was a closer and he no longer is???
