Proposal: Bos/Stl

Hey guys you have some cap space it looks like so what would you guys think of a deal think this.

STL gets: Michael Ryder and a 5th round pick

for

Bos gets: 7th round pick

Would you be willing to take a chance on Ryder for something like this?

Ryder has 1 year left at 4 mil

On the surface it looks great, but, frankly, I don't know much about Ryder's personality and character, which are things that deeply matter in Blues country. Boston needs to do some cap dumping, but this deal is too good to be true.

Absolutly IMO. Especially with a weak FA market this offseason, and if it doesnt work out, let Ryder walk at the end of the year. Worst case scenario, we moved up from the 7th round to the 5th round, and lost 4 Mill to a guy were using for one year anyway.

I'm not sure we can afford another well-paid, underachieving winger (Boyes). You are right in that it isn't much to lose, but i'd say wait and see if any of the kids make an impression in camp then retake a look at this.

I wouldn't mind taking a chance on Ryder, but the people paying the 4 million might. Thats a good chunk of change to get a draft pick for.

I'd do this deal in a second. The Blues have plenty of cap space, and since Ryder's contract is only one more year, it won't hurt their cap flexibility down the road.

I'm not sure if management would do it though. The Blues are on an internal cap and aren't in great shape financially.

For 4 mil we could get pretty much anybody on the FA market sans Kovy and Marleau. There are a heck of a lot better players than Mike Ryder on the FA market; even among the tier 2 types(Frolov, Ponikarovsky, Stempy etc...).
Unless you were willing to take Brewer in return, I don't see a deal to be made here.
