That is what we are developing. And that is what you don't screw with by thinking your team will automatically improve with the addition of a guy with better stats or more all star appearances.

There's a reason Smyth is called "Captain Canada"....
And Gretzky is known as the "great one". Does that mean, I want him playing with the kings now!!!????

The Hawks can afford to keep Sharp/Buff if the cap does rise 2 mil and Kane/Toews dont acheive max bonus's and lose Ladd , Versteeg and possibly Kopecky (And of course guys like Madden , Huet (EUrope/AHL) and Sopl (Trade) would go away)

If Kane/Toews bonus's are achieved we will probably have to move Sharp/Versteeg and Ladd while losing guys like Madden , Huet (AHL/Europe) and Sopel (Trade)

If Kane/Toews dont achieve max bonus's

Byfuglien-Toews-Kane
Beach-Sharp-Hossa
Brouwer-Bolland-Skille
Bickell-Dowell-Burish
Klinkhammer as extra

Keith-Seabrook
Campbell-Hjalmarsson
Connelly-Hendry
Cheap UFA vet

Niemi
Crawford

Out - Versteeg , Ladd , Kopecky , Madden , Fraser , Eager , Huet , Sopel
In - Skille , Beach , Bickell , Dowell , Klinkhammer , Crawford , Connelly

If Kane/Toews achieve max bonus money or close to it we will probably look like this

Byfuglien-Toews-Kane
Beach-Bolland-Hossa
Brouwer-Kopecky-Skille
Bickell-Dowell-Burish
Klinkhammer as extra

Keith-Seabrook
Campbell-Hjalmarsson
Connelly-Hendry
cheap FA vet

Niemi
Crawford

Out - Sharp , Versteeg , Ladd , Eager , Madden , Huet and Sopel
In - Beach , Skille , Bickell , Dowell , Klinkhammer , Connelly and Crawford

It all depends on what cap looks like and how much bonus hit we take with Kane/Toews

Go Kane!!! Go Toews!!!

I would love to have Sharp. Where do you think the discussion begins? I think the Kings would start with Moller, Martinez/Voynov, 2010 2nd round pick.

I wasn't aware of bonuses on Kane's and Toew's new contracts. Could you elaborate on that? I thought their CAP hits were fixed at 6.3M.

I am no expert, but I think that right now they are both still on ELCs and if they attain the bonuses they were scheduled to make this season, that money will be added to the amount spent towards the cap next season.

Experts, am I right?

I imagine that they both get decent bonuses if the Blackhawks win the cup. Just another reason to root for Chicago.

Moller wont get much interest from Hawks as many Kings fans have said he is probably better suited to be converted to Wing.... Hawks have too many wingers as is

Voynov might not interest Hawks as they have pretty much avoided Russians with the KHL's rise and our past history with Russians

Your 2nd is a non-starter ,,, too late in draft IMO

"The Performance Bonus Cushion - A team may exceed the Upper Limit by up to 7.5% due to performance bonuses. All performance bonuses, earned or not, count against the cap. If a bonus becomes impossible to achieve, then the team gets a cap credit back for the remainder of that season. At the end of the year, if the actual bonuses earned cause the team to exceed the Upper Limit, that excess is applied against the following seasons cap."

Okay that explains it.

So basically if the bonuses handed out to Hawks' players exceeds 4.26M (7.5% of 56.8M), then the amount it is exceeded by will be carried over to next season.

Currently Kane and Toews together are eligible for 5M in bonuses. If they achieve their max bonuses, .740M (5M-4.26M) will be carried over to Chicagos' CAP hit next year. That doesn't include bonuses of other players, so the amount could exceed .740M.

So up front you are looking for centers only I take it. We are a little thin in top notch prospects there. Moller may grow into that position in the future (like 5 or 6 years), but I expect both he and Loktionov will be wingers in the NHL. No way the Kings will part with Schenn.

Voynov BTW came over to North America from Russia and broke into the AHL lineup as a 19 year old, so I think he really wants to play in the NHL.

Let's try something like this. Teubert, Jones, and 1st in 2011

Well that's your take. I think the value is good. Plus Chicago may have to move Sharp, in which case you can't easily dictate the terms.

Yeah, I agree with you, but it's not like other teams won't be offering something for Sharp. We would have to give up something of value to get him.

There will be solid value from anyone I figure. The future of the western conference is the Blackhawks and Kings though. I don't see them helping us. He stays in Chicago or goes to the other conference.

That's an interesting thought but I think it's a bit premature. But I like your thinking!!!

Boychuk is a depth defenseman.

Kings need a legit top 4, not another Drewiske or Harrold.

So we'd have over $40 million tied up in the forwards, but you can't tell me that doesn't look awesome. Key is that Williams and Handzus come off the books after next season, so there's room to re-sign Simmonds, Doughty and Johnson.

For one season, the Kings would look like, well, kings. Hey, it worked for the Blackhawks!

There is a high possibility that New Jersey Devils forward Ilya Kovalchuk will return to Russian hockey in the summer, the player’s agent told Sport-Express newspaper.

Propeller Yury Nikolaev has confirmed the info that Kovalchuk, who has not signed a new contract with his club in the NHL, is now in talks with KHL side SKA Saint Petersburg.

“It is no secret. The SKA bosses and KHL President Aleksandr Medvedev all expressed their desire to purchase Kovalchuk in their interviews,” he said.

The agent also said that the $40 million sum that, according to media reports, figures in a three-year deal is unrealistic.

“The $40 million figure has been pulled out of a hat and is clearly overstated. But the information about the length of a contract is correct,” Nikolaev stressed, adding that such exaggerated reports “help them in the negotiations.”

“Ilya has a desire to play in Russia until the Sochi Olympics [in 2014],” he added.

Salavat Yulaev and another unnamed KHL team are also interested in Kovalchuk’s services, and the agent said that his client will decide on his future “by the end of June”.

Take it for what it is worth since this info is coming from his agent...

No.

It means there is a reason successful teams don't make wholesale multiple player changes over and over again each year because some player not on your team had a better statistical season than some players that are on your team.

You develop your players and your culture and your system rather than playing GM Trade A Lot.

If the $40 million for 3 years is overstated, I wonder by how much?

The Sochi thing is interesting on the surface but just sounds like more posturing by Russian hockey to try and ensure that the NHL agrees to participate in the 2014 Olympics, which I think they will. All the players want to go but the NHL hasn't committed yet because they want some guarantees first (i.e. NHL sized ice).
