Step 4: Sign Michalek (Or Volchenkov)
Step 5: Sign Evgeni Artyukhin
Step 6: ??????????
Step 7: Profit.
1. I could actually see him leaving.

2. This is possible given that San Jose could be looking for a new #1 and still need to compete,(fans restless)

3. Harder than it looks, we are probably stuck with both, Hamrlik I could see being dealt at the deadline depending where we are in the standings.

4. I would like either one on the team as they would be a huge upgrade on our blueline. But back to #3, you will have to move one of them to bring in one of these guys. We have a full defense even without Hamr or Spacek in the lineup so...., one would have to go in order to make #4 happen.

5. I am pretty sure this guy has already signed overseas. It was during the playoffs when he signed, 90% sure.

6. Dominik Hasek came out of retirement to play in the KHL.

7. Obvious, we need some cap relief.

And then you have 0 cap space for a #2 center unless we get rid of both Hamrlik and Spacek.

Where is Hamhuis ?

I would like a guy like Hamhuis or Michalek with the Habs.

I have a feeling Ottawa gonna try to get Michalek to play with his brother. He could replace Volchenkov who will probably leave for Washington.

Of course, Kovalchuk is the top player, BUT Plekanec is the most ''affordable'', and safe signing.

Guy I would target on that list Johnny Boychuk

Age: 26
Date of birth: January 19, 1984
Place of birth: Edmonton, Alta., Canada
Ht: 6-2 Wt: 225
Shoots: R
Salary: $ 500,000
NHL Seasons: 3
Drafted by Colorado in 2002 (2/61).
Acquired in a trade with Colorado in 2008.

Big physical mobile d-man. I'd throw him a 3 year 6 million dollar deal!
I think this kid would crack Montreal's top 4 easily!

Drop Hamrlik and Spacek in salary dump deals for anything at all

Sign Boychuk - promise him top 4 minutes

O'Byrne Markov (for a full year)
Subban Boychuk
Gorges Gill
Carle

Don't get me wrong, guys like Volchenkov would be nice but he's looking for a jackpot deal!

I'd sign Frolov and Trade both Kostitsyn Brothers, Montreal's first out west with Halak for Backes and Berglund (do whatever it takes to get these two guys even if it takes more)

DO NOT resign MAB Plekanec Mara Metro Darche

Maybe keep Moore depending on Salary demands to run the forth line!

Gionta Gomez Backes
Frolov Berglund Cammalleri
Pouliot Lapierre MaxPac
Pyatt Moore Ryan White

Agreed, I think either way people will be *****ing about the Plekanec outcome. If we sign him people will complain about how we overpaid to keep him and if we lose him people will cry we lost an asset for nothing.

Still better then last years lineup and there is a ton of cap room for trade deadline moves if need be.

Berglund is bigger and more offensive the Plekanec

Frolov is a better version of AK and has good history with Cammalleri

Boychuk is cheaper and a defensive upgrade on both Hamrlik and Spacek

Backes gives Montreal a physical presence on the PP and will create the room needed for the the Gionta /Gomez duo.

My only concern real is the thrid line

Forth line of Pyatt Moore and White would be in your face 24 /7

One guy I would love to add to third line maybe would be Cooke!

Agreed, Unless Plekanec stays for 4 million or less no one will be happy!

Yea that's why this list isn't very good..but nothing surprising since it's coming from THN.
Hamhuis and Gonchar should be there. Even if the latter is old, he's a solid Dman and last I heard negotiations weren't perfect with the Pens.
I would also place Martin higher up than Plek.

I find it ironic that they say Kovalchuk is so low despite being a 50GS because of the raise he will command, but at the same time they mention Plek will get a big one too.
Plekanec at 6M isn't such a great deal anymore.

I would love to see a Hammrlik for Hamius+conditional pick(if Hamius signs with MTL, no pick, if he dosen't, 3rd round pick maybe?) The thing is I'm not sure if Nashville could take Hammrlik's salary. Good trade for both teams because: Nashvillie looks like they will lose him so trading him for something is better than just losing him. They get a veteran defenceman that can help a guy like Ryan Ellis develop quicker and better. Montreal sheds Hammrlik's salary for a top 4 defenceman and, just in case h dosen't sign, we get a pick and still shed Hammrlik's salary. Maybe a 3rd is not the right pick or maybe the pick can be changed for future considerations such as a prospect, but I think this would be a good trade for both teams.

Hamuis missing pretty much discredits most of this list. Dan Ellis? Nittymaki? Really now? I'm sure they'll have all 30 teams knocking at their door soon enough.
