Actually, if we were to lose Pleck and not be able to sign an alternative......Id sign a LW and move Pouliot back at C......
In all liklyhood, this is IMO the most perceivable action that we can foresee as of now. I remember JM and PG speaking of Pouliot as a center at a press conference, not just pondering, but rather considering. Also, very cap friendly.
Besides a trade to land a Carter or a Staal or a Lecavalier (all doubtful)
Besides signing Marleau...(very pricy)
It will be much more easier to land a Clowe or Armstrong...
...and maybe bolster our defense with a physical specimen.
I don't think so, plus the last thing the Habs need is a smallish soft winger that isn't very good in his own end, or very strong on his skates.
Any forwards from the minors ready? I realize pacioretty is probably most ready but may be left down to learn more at a lower level first. Anyone besides him that can play 3rd line next year?

Since Pyatt is a full timer, I could see White making the team, if not he should get a few callups. Trotter has the waiver issue so they might keep him around as a spare forward. I'd like to see Desharnais get a callup.

Alright, I assume maxpac/white/desharnais/weber/carle are all call-ups? Trotter being 13th forward?

Maybe we can add Ott and Malone to the list of "easier to land" players for the top 6......
Additionally, maybe Pouliot would focus more in standing in front of the goalie in the center role....his size would help there....
I was thinking about this today. What if we signed Patrick Marleau to a one year contract this summer if we couldn't re-sign Plekanec? What do you guys think?

If your Marleau why the heck would you sign a one year deal?
Pouliot as a C is a disaster in the making. Unless he suddenly becomes aware defensively and willing to back check every game.
I think you are a bit harsh on Pouliot's defensive play. The guy needs coaching to fill the role properly, that is true. But so many of his assets are more suited for centering a line.
And with his easy stride, backchecking should not be a stretch.

1) Having a streaky and lifeless AK with 40-ish points
2) Having hard working hustlers like Clowe or Armstrong with 40-ish points
I do agree that it is not top tier, but we do not have rich prospect for our top 6.
And mind you this scenario would be the result the departure of Plekanec and not been able to trade for a top tier center.
Your projected lines are Cammy with Pouliot and Armstrong... Pouliot has a lot of work a head of him just to get back into the position he had as a good winger with us, nevermind evolving into a 2nd line center during the off-season. He is extremely weak on his skates, underweight for his frame (although he can throw some nice hits)... He needs to bulk up 10lbs of muscle, get stronger on his feet to win more battles and he will be a great piece to our top 6. Just not centering the 2nd line, imo.
Armstrong is a very solid 3rd line player who can play the 2nd line occassionally to mix things up or to fill in for an injury, but for an 82 game season he simply won't be good enough if we hope to make the playoffs again next year. I'm definitely interested in signing him if the price is right, but even though AK is completely enigmatic I don't think Armstrong is an improvement in this position.
If the team is completely certain that Pleks is unsignable, then it will undoubtably perform some sort of trade in an attempt to lessen the blow. On the FA market the only player that can fill his shoes is Marleau, he's obviously an upgrade..
