Flyers re-sign Johan Backlund

2 year deal per Timmy P....

Quote:
Backlund re-signs

Goalie Johan Backlund agreed to a two-year contract extension. He may require surgery on his left hip because of a groin problem. Holmgren said he will need surgery, but Backlund said he wasnt sure. Ive been feeling pretty good, Backlund said. I learned to play over here and its a totally different game. I learned a lot and learned to play this style.

Thank GOD. This guy has a shot at being the starter in two or three years. And hopefully, this means they're letting Leighton go and keeping Boucher.

Eriksson is staying overseas.

Riopel will play in the ECHL (Riopel isn't under contract with the Flyers)

Backlund and Bobrovsky will be Phantoms.

I would have thought that this means Boucher is gone more.

Not that I think Leighton is coming back anyway.

He probably has a two way contract, which means he will be with Bobrovsky in the AHL for the next season until we need to call him up.

boucher will be on the phantoms to help the rushkie imo if backlund shows he can handle the backup role. Leighton walks i believe. You would htink they want the rushkie to get a lot of playing time in the ahl so why woudl backlung resign to split time in the ahl?

Bobo and Backlund sound like a good AHL combo to me.

TSN is reporting that he was signed to be the Flyers backup. Huh? Since when was that the plan?

Why wouldn't it be the plan? He's a European veteran that did his year of adjustment in the AHL, got a spot start down the stretch when every single point mattered, and was the backup in many of the playoff games. Maybe Boucher is in the running too and is even the favorite to land the job, but this guy has earned a shot to compete for the job.

The article (which I would like if I were smarter) said that Backlund "is expected to serve as the Flyers main backup next season." I agree that he should be given a chance in camp just like Bobo should but to say he is expected to be a backup is big surprise to me.

So does that mean Boosh is gone?

i think this is about having a veteran mentor for sunshine more than anything. someone whose made the switch from sel to north america and will understand the difficulties when ericsson makes the transition.

i keep getting the feeling that were going to go with an unproven starter next year whoever it is they go with.

The second year is a one-way contract, according to capgeek.com.

So I was looking at Capgeek and noticed that Backlund's salary number in 2011-12 was not in red font, indicating a two-way deal, but rather in black.....

An error is that?
