Keith was steady most of the season, but Doughty was spectacular.

Doughty is the best all around defenseman in the NHL right now. Period.

Thank God Dean didn't draft Bogosian.

I don't know if that argument flies for two reasons. 1, you can be a great defenseman on a great team and still be the best in the league and 2, I think Chicago would have been a heck of a lot worse without Keith as their anchor.

I hope Keith wins it. Any chance he gets a bonus for that?

I'm probably gonna get called a homer but I dont even think Doughty vs Keith should even be a discussion.. Doughty is certainly better than that guy. Keith also plays with an Olympic caliber defenseman in Seabrook.. Doughty plays with Scuds.

Thats not saying Scuderi is bad or anything.. I actually like Rob, especially down the stretch. But heres what Scuderis shifts consist of:

- Puck gets dumped into our end, Scuderi retrieves.

- Scuderi D to D pass to Doughty. Scuds lets Doughty do the rest.

- Other team chips puck out of their own zone. Scuderi regroup pass to Doughty. Doughty does the rest.

Point is.. Doughty handles the puck way more often than Keith, and has to make many more decisions than Duncan Keith with less help on the ice than Keith. And even with that being so, Doughty still makes better decisions than Keith does.

Agreed with most things said in this thread. Doughty is, without a doubt, the best defenseman in the league as of now. Keith is, as already said, steady and intelligent with the puck, but nowhere near the gamebreaker Doughty has become. Doughty could take over games at whim this season, whereas Keith was just...steady. That's not a bad thing, but the Hawks never won games on the back of Keith this season. Perhaps on the backs of their entire defensive core, which consisted of many more role players than just Keith.

Everyone else is an up and comer with potential (Myers) or an aging superstar (Pronger, Lidstrom).

Among defensemen:

Odds to win 2010 James Norris Memorial Trophy for the Top Defenseman

Drew Doughty(notes), Los Angeles Kings — 1/2

Duncan Keith(notes), Chicago Blackhawks — 11/4

Mike Green(notes), Washington Capitals — 3/1

I voted for Doughty, and it appears he's the odds-on favorite. But if I were a betting man, I'd drop a few shekels on Keith here. (And by that I mean I am a betting man ... just not for something as scripted as awards shows. It's like betting on who wins "Survivor.")

I admit I know little to nothing about sports betting, but I can't help but read that as the odds being that Keith wins the Norris 11 out of every 4 times!

I really want Doughty to pull it off. But Keith's deserving too. I'm betting the voting was pretty damn close. And I know it was after the voting, but Keith really earned my respect after getting all those teeth knocked out in the playoffs and not missing a beat.
