Carter and Coburn for Nabokov?

Wanted to see if this would be fair value for you guys, before posting it on the main board.

EDIT: Now under the assumption of Nabokov signing a 3 year $6M per year deal, then getting traded.

Okay well, obviously the proposal with Nabokov being UFA is dumb. What if SJ does a sign and trade... say 3 years at $6M? Still no?

You're so very far off the board on this trade.

Obviously not your fault since you probably haven't looked at the teams cap situation.

But let me just pose this question to you...

Would you trade a young sniper who hasn't even touched the prime of his career for a tender who is on the decline of his? Wouldn't you rather, if you were gonna trade that young sniper, trade him for a young budding goaltender in return?

Logic.

You'll probably get better answers to that question on the Sharks' board but this was an article from last month. Of course, this isn't a perfect answer but the article mentions that issue:

http://www.mercurynews.com/peninsula/ci_15171768

Quote:
Wilson also has a "compensation-for-performance" philosophy, and while Nabokov is generally considered among the NHL's top 10 goaltenders, the fact that the Sharks have not advanced to the Stanley Cup finals during his near-decade as starting goalie could work against him.

Nabokov faced several questions about his future, and most of his answers boiled down to this: "It's my option; it's also the Sharks' option."

Wilson cautioned against reading too much into anything at this point.

"I think it would be premature for anybody to assume anything," the general manager said. "We will go through the review of where we're at, getting input from everybody. And then we'll make the tough decisions we have to."

Who though? GM's don't want to give up young budding goaltenders, except for Price (who before was Montreal's sacred cow). Rask and Gustavsson come to my mind for young goalies who aren't gonna go anywhere except for massive overpayment. Howard and Mason too (even though Mason had an off year). Would you trade Carter for one of these goalies?

I would not trade Coburn for him.

I would not trade Carter for him.

I would not trade Carter and Coburn for him.

Oh, and he's a UFA.

Nabokov is a choker. I'd rather stick with Leighton with his faults and lack of cap hit.

Okay, since apparently no one reads anything other than the first post: if SJ signed him to a $6M 3 year deal, would you make this trade?

No, it's just not a good trade, my man.

Like Chris Shafer said, I wouldn't trade just Coburn for Nabokov or just Carter for Nabokov, so I sure as hell wouldn't trade both of them for him. Horrible value for us.

No. He is too old to be giving up a #1 two-way 40 goal C and top 4 defenseman with size and mobility. I wouldn't give Coburn alone for him.

Still wouldn't even trade Coburn alone for him. Too old, too much money, other cheaper options on the market that could perform just as well behind a strong team, and he'd be the only Russian on the team.

Well, since the general consensus is no, mods can feel free to lock this thread. Just wanted to get some opinions on this.

On another note, congrats on your Cup run guys! That goal was a ***** way to end a fantastic story. Philly is my second favorite team and I really hope they do well for years to come.

Fair enough. I didn't even realize that; never crossed my mind. I'm not even so sure we go after him in SJS lets him walk.

$4m? We'd probably be able to fit him at $4m on the free-agent market without losing anyone.

I don't know if I'd give him much more than that, or give up a significant piece to get him here.
