He's an UFA. Technically, with the cap going up, we can afford him for 5 million and pretty much keep everyone that we have.

I wouldn't trade either one of Carter or Coburn for him. After thinking about it for a few days I'm not opposed to having Leighton around as the starter going into the season because I think Jeff Reese really helped his game in just a couple of months.

And thanks for the kind words about our team, most of us are very proud of them.

And then get hurt in a year by the cap, instead of this year.

Maybe this is why they would try to re-sign Leighton?

No offense but if you're making the effort on coming to another teams board and asking what they think of a proposal, do a little research.

Isn't true that you can't do sign and trades?

Technically, Nabokov is from Kazakhstan. The IIHF just changed the rules for him.

this team is built for the playoffs, nabokov chokes every year on one of the top NHL teams in the playoffs. Thanks but no thanks. And yes, at 6 mill he is overpaid.

I wouldnt even take him at 6 mill as a UFA signing, still think he would be a rip off.

EDIT: Now under the assumption of Nabokov signing a 3 year $6M per year deal, then getting traded.
No thanks. 6 mil a year for a guy who continuously chokes year after year. I would rather not.

Okay, unless he goes to the Thrashers he'll be the only Kazakh guy on the team.

Why not just wait until July 1, then the Flyers can sign him & keep Coburn & trade Carter to someone else.

That said, no thanks to Nabokov, even if his money ADDED money to the Cap.

Last three Stanley Cup winning goaltenders aren't quite superstar -calibre: Antti Niemi, Chris Osgood and MA Fleury (who despite being 1st overall isn't exactly perennial Vezina candidate yet). Plus the market is filled with goalies who still are solid starters, as a plethora of young goaltenders have broken out lately dethroning older guys.

Goalscorers and top 4 defensemen are valuable. IMO there's hardly a goaltender in the league who would fetch a return as high as Carter + Coburn. Nabokov, whose playoff record is somewhat dubious (perhaps thanks to the team moreso than his own undertakings) certainly shouldn't.
