cant really comment on the value of the trade, but its SJ advantage to keep seto there, since hes cheap producing winger. they have other assests to trade imo

If they're letting Nabokov walk, they'd be pretty stupid not to trade Setoguchi for a top 5 pick and a potential franchise goalie who's 22 years old. If we have to give to get, the other side does as well.

Malone

Halak
A.Kostitsyn
1st round pick'10
I would do that without thinking, but I doubt Tampa does. Maybe if you dropped the first rounders for both teams they do it.

Would not be at all surprised if both goalies and being shopped to find out their value. I still don't think this means one is gone, it will all depends on what happens with Plek and what they can get in return on one of the goalies.

Really?

You would trade Malone straight up for Halak???

I'm sure Tampa does, just hope MTL doesn't

Nope. They're both RFA's....they can both receive offer sheets. You might be confusing offer sheets with arbitration. Halak is eligible for arbitration...Price is not.

No kidding! Setoguchi had a whopping 36 points this past season. I'd want Setoguchi and an additional asset for Price. If Nabokov walks, the Sharks will be trading from a position of weakness.

I don't give much for rumors but when Bob Mckenzie's name is attached then I read or listen. This guy knows his ****. If he says both are being shopped to see which one returns the most than it is legit. I can see Price as the guy on the move. He is going through growing pains in Montreal but in the right city say San Jose or Tampa he might be a star, He is a great puck moving goalie similar to Brodeur, He needs to work on his glove and ability to make saves when he is not perfectly positioned. I can see another teams scouting department drooling over his potential and I believe he will go. I just hope there is a significant return that makes our team better now, not in two years but right now.

I think that Desharnais could get the job done with Malone and Cammy on his wings.
That fills one hole and creates a great big one.

If we're going to trade a goalie to Tampa we should go after Downie. Following that we should go after a player like Carcillo and put Downie, Lapierre, and Carcillo all on a line together. We'll call them the **** disturbers line. That way win or loose next season we at least have something to laugh about that's not another organization. Thoughts?

But seriously, having Downie would be great. I don't think Malone alone is worth one of our goalies and that we should at least get some youth in return. I also really don't see Tampa trading their first round draft pick especially, with a GM who has spent so much time around the Red Wings organization and a coaching staff that work wonders with younger players (at least thus far). They might be willing to take on some salary in Andrei Kostitsyn or Hamrlik but of the two I think Andrei would be the only option due to Hamrlik's limited NTC. Still, I don't think Tampa is willing to match what Montreal is asking for one of our goalies.

As for Horton, or the entire Florida Panther roster for that matter, I'm not sure if he's the best route either for reasons that are already well documented if not on this board then one of the other ones where Horton is being packaged to Montreal for something. You really get the feeling that the vast majority roster player Florida has a giant buyer be warned sign on them anyway. If they were to include one of their young defensemen in Kulikov or Ellerby then maybe but I'm fairly certain we'd have to go beyond a goalie to get one which again begs the question is Montreal willing to pay.

What happens if both get great values. Do you trade both? Seriously if St Louis calls and brand EJ around for Price. Then Flyers call they're willing to trade Carter for Halak. How can you say no to one?

That is the rational and "logical" path indeed.....

I consider AKost to have negative value at this point.

But Halak has close to 15 more years too.

It's not like the Habs would be choosing a veteran over a young kid. That makes it an easier pill to swallow.

I guess 07-08 and 08-09 don't count

08/09 was only slightly higher than 35 points and 07/08 was quite clearly a fluke at this point. Obviously he was being carried by Kovalev.

Of course they count, especially given that he played less than 60 regular season games this year. He's definitely a 20+ goal scorer over a full regular season. What disturbs me a bit, though, is the fact that he has only found the back of the net in 2 of his last 23 playoff games.

Everyone here has to admit, it's the duo that was meant to be. Inigmatic player with franchise potential, with the premier young player straighten-outer.
