Maurice Richard.

Taking a hockey stick to the head without a helmet has to equal a Chara punch.

Lindros got beat up by Stevens. Stevens is a good fighter, but obviously Chara is better. Not too mention Stevens is 6'2, Lindrso 6'4 and Chara is 6'9

Are you sure that Stevens beat Lindros? I've never heard of that and can't find evidence on youtube or hockeyfights.com...

Big Boris Valábik tried. 6' 7.5'' at 245lbs he's a good size match.

Boris says that Z is his hero. Nothing like getting beat by your hero.

Artyukhin had a huge visor on. Chara threw a punch that would've crushed his nose, Artyukhin wasn't even trying to stop him from punching. His only defense was the visor.

I'm pretty sure of the one or two times Lindros fought Stevens, Lindros won or was at least the aggressor. Don't remember him losing.

I'll agree with the hockey stick equivalence to Chara punch, though. His arm resembles a hockey stick in length.

Chara fought Laraque to a draw because his balance is pathetic when fighting guys his own size.

Does Chara really deserve any credit for these fights?

These Bruins guys are such homers He slammed Laraque? He rag dolled Laraque? He pulled Laraque down? I didn't realize Chara was trained in BJJ. Looks to be like he slipped and then just hung on.

Someone like MacIntyre or Boogaard would make quick work of Chara...if he could stay on his skates long enough to actually fight.

I also think Pronger wouldn't have a chance. He's older now, plus he's deceptively small. That's not to say he's not a big guy, but when you see a 6'6" defenseman, you usually expect them to weigh more than 215.

I think a guy like Hatcher would have had a better shot, because he was up around 240 if I remember.

The thing that impresses me about Chara isn't that he always wins his fights, it's that he never seems to lose. Before he fought Laraque, I would have bet money that Laraque would knock him down, but neither guy is the clear winner there.

I'm all for starting a campaign to spread vicious rumors about what Boogaard and Chara said about each other's mamas to try to instigate a fight. Let's make it happen.

When Matt Barnaby fights you to a draw, nothing you do is impressive. Chara can't fight for s***, and the only thing he's good at is hugging and falling.

And what do you base this on? Chara very rarely loses a fight, he doesn't win many because he always protects himself since he is after all one of the best defensemen in the NHL. If he can handle Laraque (not saying he won because he didn't), then he can easily handle MacIntyre and can handle Boogaard.

Chara is a fking terrible fighter. The only reason anyone respects him as a fighter is because he's the biggest guy on the ice, and David Koci bleeds like Tsar Alexander in a blender.

Chara's fighting style is to knock the guy to the ice before he gets the piss beaten out of him.

Welcome to this decade, I am sure he has improved since the '01-'02 season.

Laraque and Brashear are both called huggy bear for a reason. How can you blame Chara for those crappy fights as if all the other guy wanted to do was open up and throw punches?

Seems you're both right. I must have been thinking of someone else. My bad.

My take on Chara as a fighter

- One of the top three in punching power

- Ditto for strength

- Ditto for intimidation

- Good grappling game

- Protects himself well

- Decent fighting stamina

- Horrible balance

Chara is a physical anomaly ( the second time I've used that phrase today ) so his top traits tend to overcome his one flaw. But it's that one flaw that can really make a fighter stand apart from others. IMO, a fighter's balance is the one of the most underrated parts of fighting.

Not my fault the youtube button doesn't work. All I should have to do is copy and paste. Other boards can figure this out, why can't HF?

Take off the homer glasses. When you fight to a draw with someone almost 80 pounds lighter and 8 inches shorter and can't beat his ass handily, you fail as a fighter.

That's a draw? Looks like Chara had the edge the entire fight until he lost his balance ( again ).

BTW, it's a win on one of if not the most respected hockey fight analyst websites out there.

chara may not lose many fights, but he isnt winning many either. typically its a hold...hold...hold...huge right hook that goes wide...and then he falls. he rarely connects with anything solid.
