At first I thought this was some new cap-exempt buyout they had instituted but it appears to be no different than the normal rules regarding buyouts... This doesn't help us... No one wants 8 years of dead cap space for buying out Redden....

buy outs aren't an easy out of a contract's cap hit. If the Rangers bought out Redden, for example, they'd still have almost $2 mill count against their cap for the next 8 years.

It can provide some short term relief, but it's still essentially completely worthless cap space being taken up and the Rangers will be paying it out for 4 years after his contract would expire normally

edit: And hell I even made a mistake. For 2012 and 2013, the buyout cap hit would be $3.4 mill.

He probably taught it was a buyout period where it wont count agaisnt the cap. No way are we buying out any of our contracts.

We won't be buying anybody out, but it would be a way different story if it was for an amnesty buy out.

Imagine what an amnesty buyout could do for this team? Holy ****.

Seriously.

There would be parties thrown the moment Redden is bought out.

I suppose I am a lil bit confused on the buyout process, went to capgeek I see how it works with Redden, however why the jump to 3.4 and change on his cap hit? Is the buyout of the remaining years of his cap hit? so the rangers buyout his remaining 26 million dollars in cap money at 2/3rds? or is it the remaining 23 million in salary at 2/3rds? And again why the jump up for two of the 8 years of his cap? I thought it was spaced out evenly across the span of what the years were?

Thanks for the help.

Personally i wouldn't mind buying out Drury and having that cap hit for the next 4 years.

As long as there would be an immediate follow up plan of packaging Rozsival with a good prospect to a team who will not give any significant salary back and the demotion of toxic presence Redden before the season starts.

A 1.2, 4.2, 2.1, 2.1 dead cap hit for four years doesn't look so bad when you've just removed 18.6 in dead cap. Just sit on it and wait for good opportunities while the team builds itself within. And so you don't have to drop your homegrown players or struggle to sign them because the 3 veteran cap eating voids are gone.

Whose going to replace them? Who cares. This would be a quick rebuilding team like the Flyers and in a couple years the Rangers are going to start looking ridiculous.

Kreider-*****-Gaborik
Dubinsky-Stepan-MZA
Grachev-Anisimov-Callahan
Werek/Bourque/Byers/Weise/etc.

Staal-Del Zotto
Mcdonagh-Sanguinetti
Girardi/Sauer/Kundratek/Valentenko/etc.

Lundqvist

And you're adding either a Connolly, Taransenko, Burmistrov, Johansen, Nino, Granlund to that list. And if next year its looking like another poor season(IMO it is) then you never know it could be like a JVR Flyers year and the Rangers get another guy like Brandon Saad or are close enough to grab or trade for an Adam Larsson or Sean Couturier.

The future is very bright and it is on the horizon but all i feel Drury, Redden and Rozsival are doing is delaying progress. No future with a winning Rangers team. Just get rid of them now, all three of them. They don't need to be on this team anymore.
