GO COTE D'IVOIRE!
I'm a huge Cote D'Ivoire fan too! BTW, do you know where I can get a Drogba jersey? (Tried Sports Experts, Puma Store, Capsule and all along St-Cath's...)

All kidding aside, I researched it and found out (accurately, I hope) that the bumble bee buss is due to things called vuvuzelas - plastic horns. It's the traditional way for the South Africans to celebrate things. I seems that these horns were given to the fans as they entered the stadiums to cheer on their teams.

So, if you've got 80,000 people in the stadiums and 1/10 of them have those horns and are using them, you've got 8,000 of these horns being blown constantly. The result is you've got that steady buzz (or hum, if you will) all game long.

Wow... for those who aren't able to filter that out... it must drive them nuts. For those watching the TV, they've got to listen to it so as to even get the description and play by play commentary of the games.

Thanks for doing the research for me. I seem to be able to block out this noise so it does not bother me, however, my girlfriend refuses to watch the games as it drives her nuts.

How about Evangelista Sports? It's in St-Laurent BLVD in Little Italy.

Here is there website.

I find the sound very distressing...

Maybe I stepped on too many hornet nests in the forest as a kid... no joke

It brings back bad painful memories

Better question is why would you sleep at one of those games?

This thread is hilarious. People who watch soccer once every four years complaining how people celebrate their national sport.

That'd be like somebody from Africa saying the Habs should ban the singing of Ole Ole Ole during the cup finals because it annoys them.

It part of soccer. Singing. Chanting. Flairs.

Soccer is pretty boring, but when you get an hour long lunch and there's nothing but soccer on, you watch it. Watched Serbia Vs Ghana game. Heard the noise, wondered "WTF?", but didn't care. Caught a bit of the Germany Vs Australia game, heard same thing, but didn't care.

It's no more annoying than Cheechoo whistles, or Tootoo whistles, or ole ole ole. I'm not sure why there's such a buzz over this

This happens for the entire 90 minutes of the game, so its not the same thing. Also, you can hear the crowd over those tootoo whistles. These horns just absorb the entire atmosphere which is sad because the atmosphere at a premier football event is normally something to behold.

I think that place you speak of may have had a hockey team once. If I remember correctly, it was filled with the scum of the earth.

Does this mythical Quebec City still exist, or did it also get transfered to Colorado?

I watch football all the time and even I am finding these horns bloody annoying. I prefer to hear chants rather than a steady din of noise. They are even being blown during the anthems, which I find highly disrespectful.

Well, this is HF. Gotta complain about something, no matter how trivial. Noise at an international soccer match - how surprising, how bothersome.

I know that sound is disturbing, but its their country and they are at home, they can do whatever they want.

Its like the NHL bans the olé olé chant, because it annoye people watching it at home...

and for those who cheers for a team and want to see a game at a café, restaurant/bar. you might be intersted by this

Yes it is their home but they are hosting 32 nations, and the local team isnt on the pitch at every game. Let them do it if it means that much when the home team plays but for other teams they should be banned if it interferes with the game itself.

Also im sure it isnt just annoying people at home, its annoying the people there and probably the players on the field.

Thanks for the map, very useful !

That sound is not new.

I've been living for 5 years in Mexico and it sound pretty similar to every match i've seen on tv, not that loud but there has always been a constant "buzzing" from most of the Latin crowds i've seen so far and most Mexican league.

That horn was invented in Mexico and adopted in South Africa in the 1990s... I happen to like it myself. The sound of bees brings atmosphere. I think that they should have that at the Canadiens games.
