Danny Briere Survives Car Accident

http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/...-96578954.html

Quote:
Flyers forward Danny Briere and son Cameron survived a crash with a tractor-trailer early Thursday morning right outside Binghamton, N.Y.

Briere was trying to pass a tractor-trailer on Interstate-81. He was a little drowsy, according to state police, drifted into the other lane of traffic, swiping the tractor-trailer.

The big rig swerved and jackknifed, tying up traffic for hours.

Briere's car hit a guardrail. He and his son were both taken to the hospital, treated and released.
Thank God they're both okay.

Glad everyone's ok. Car accidents can be terrible.

It's a little weird to hear about somebody famous wrecking their car on a strip of highway I'm so familiar with (having driven it dozens of times to and from school).

Whew... thank God they're okay.

Car vs tractor trailer accidents don't usually end up well. Glad this one did.

Thankfully, no one was seriously injured.

A couple of days after the Flyers were eliminated from the 1977 playoffs, Rick MacLeish's van flipped over on a wet road in Philly and he suffered a broken neck. His passenger was teammate Bob Dailey, who supposedly walked away without a scratch.

I'm so glad they're ok! He almost singlehandedly and unintenionally resolved our "too many centres" problem!

That stretch of 81 so horrifically boring. It's not uncommon for drivers to nod off. I know I have.

All joking aside, Im glad him and his son are okay. The title of the thread did scare me a bit.

I don't mean to come off as insensitive as I'm very happy both he and his son are alright, but if he were to have died in the accident, what would happen in terms of the status of his contract and cap implications for the team?

I have no idea what would happen to the contract, but considering things like LTIR exist for living injuries I don't think the cap hit applies when a player passes away.

Glad that Danny and his son are okay. He has had enough bruises as it is!

Wow! not exactly the best way to clear cap space! Not to be morbid but how the heck does the CBA handle cap issues with players that pass away God forbid anyway? I mean Rathje was "dead weight" with his lousy contract for all those years how does it work with a player that actually dies!

Anyway, thank God he's alright...Flyers don't need any kind of tragedy after this latest cup loss. Lindbergh, Gene Hart and Tertyshny were some of the worst losses. Then you had Yannick Dupre who was a class guy despite his limited NHL time. Of course, Barry Ashbee was a tough loss for the Flyers organization and then Tim Kerr's wife. The worst for me though was Lindbergh...we could have won a few cups with him..no offense against Hexy and his 87 MVP performance. I thought Tertyshny was going to be a good player ..showed a lot of promise...

P.S. Just saw somebody had the same thought as me about deaths and the CBA

The whole Briere "Survives" Car Accident freaks me out. It's good to see that Danny and his son are alright.
