Valentenko to North America

According to a Dmitry Chesnokov tweet, he's coming back here:

http://twitter.com/dchesnokov/status/16418889925

"Former #Habs prospect (traded to #NYR) Pavel Valentenko, who "defected" back to Russia in '08, is set to return to North America."

Dmitry is real big on all things Russian hockey.

Mods, if needed, just move this to the Prospects thread.

Don't any of you bass-turds follow me on Twitter? Geez.

According to UHC Dynamo General Director Andrei Safronov, in an interview on his club’s web site, 23-year old defenseman Pavel Valentenko will return to North America next season.

“In the near future we’ll terminate our agreement with the defenseman by mutual consent,” Safronov explained. “Valentenko’s contract is very large, and we can’t afford to pay that player such money.”

“According to my information, Valentenko plans to go back overseas,” Safronov added.

That's where I read it first

If you don't check out Beyond The Blueshirts, or follow him on Twitter, I recommend it. Great source for all overseas hockey news, especially when in comes to NYR prospects

I'm assuming he's playing in the AHL. Highly doubt he's stepping right into NYR lineup

Didn't he leave because he was unhappy to be stuck in Hamilton (AHL)?

He's better than Gilroy and anyone else beneath him right now. I would not be surprised at all to see him make the team as the 5th/6th/7th guy. I don't think he'd be coming over for AHL duty.

I actually think he easily takes the #6/7 spot.

He's around 6'2 220lbs and was VERY physical when I saw him. Pretty sound in his own end with some offensive upside. Blast of a shot.

Yep. I think he should win it on talent alone. We'll see what they do with him, but I think he's the best choice.

So if McDonagh signs after Prospect Camp, who is taking Gilroy's spot on the team that he will inevitably lose in training camp?

Should be a good battle for that 6th spot in camp if this is true.

Hopefully it forces Sather's hand to bury Redden and/or move Girardi.

I, for one, am very happy about this. People are getting pushed to play better at every level: Gilroy, Girardi, Redden, Sanguinetti, Sauer, and even McDonagh if he comes over. We might end up with decent depth, as well as valuable trade pieces.

no no no girardi is apart of this teams core, homegrown and top 4 dman gotta love guys like that. we have to stop the ridiculous turnover rate of our team year in and year out. That being said Girardi's going nowhere

Agreed. Hopefully he comes into camp on a mission and really shows he's wants a spot on the team.

I doubt he makes the Rangers out of camp, and I don't really know why so manythink he has the best chance (even higher than Sangs and McD). He has played a total of 19 games over the last two years, mostly due to injuries. And there's probably a reason that the "new" Dynamo team thinks he is too expensive (I know they are in financial trouble).

With that said it's great that he comes back, I think he has a good chance to make the team in the future if he plays solid in the AHL.

Good size and likes to play the body. Not the greatest skater and has some problems staying healthy.

Could be a solid bottom pairing guy if he pans out.
