Halak traded to St. Louis for Eller and Schultz

Everybody's talking about it and there's one less trading partner for Josh Harding.

Not much return for him. Bad goalie market.

With one or two exceptions, there never is.

Ouch, I was actually thinking they made the most sense for Harding...

I hate to say, but at this rate, we'll be lucky to get much of anything for him... If an established (and hot as hell) goalie only gets two prospects(who I admittedly don't know anything about), we'll be lucky to get anything better than a 4th...

Eller was a pretty highly touted prospect so I wouldn't say he was moved for peanuts. It was basically a 1st and a 3rd, but it's okay. Harding will probably moved in a package for a top 6 forward. That's my best guess. I could see us packaging Schultz and Harding and a 2nd rounder for someone, I think it's just a matter of who and the quality that we will get for that package. I doubt Harding is moved alone, but I'm pumped for some trade action.

unbelievable.

Halak had his Best performance ever during the playoffs and then, he got traded now.

I think if the Habs staff could have waited till the draft. I'd guess they could have had draft pick involved in that trade and maybe, more..

still a very bad trade to me.

The only thing working in the Wild's favor is that Harding is going to be a lot younger than many of the free agent goalies and also still has very high potential. He's similar to where Halak was last year, good in limited time but not proven (although I wouldn't say Halak has cemented himself as an amazing goalie yet...he'll need another great season).

Agreed. The other good thing about the trade is that this gives some idea of what people should expect back if Harding gets traded solo. His value is one of the hardest to pinpoint, but a goalie in a similar position being traded helps recognize the market.

Makes sense though, I wouldn't consider Halak and Harding on the same level value-wise.

I'm more than expecting Harding to be un-movable.

Unless it's part of a package deal to Tampa or Atlanta...

If Malone is really "on the market" I would propose:

Harding+Schultz for Malone+...

Put Malone on the right of Brunette - Koivu...

I'm surprised Montreal got a player like Eller for Halak. Eller is going to be an absolute star in this league. I don't think I'd trade him even up with any goaltender available on the market.

I think this was a pretty big mistake on St. Louis' part. Even with their deep center corps at the NHL level.

Thank you for reassuring me.

I thought it was a big mistake for the Habs to trade Halak.

If Tampa or Atlanta are looking for a goalie, I wonder if we could use Harding to move up and grab El Nino or Connelly? I would expect at least one of them to be there at 6, not so sure about 8.

We could, but that would essentially be saying that Harding is worth a 2nd.

I've seen a lot of Eller since him being in North American. He's going to be a legitimate #1, two-way center with great leadership qualities. He reminds me a bit of Mikko Koivu.

As for Harding, I don't think he's being moved. There aren't many teams in need of a goaltender and you can cross one more off the list now. There's a strong goaltender market so teams aren't going to part with much. The Wild are stuck at this point I think.

St. Louis made the most sense to me for us to deal Harding to, given their surplus of quality prospects. Then again, I've said all along I don't want to deal Harding. This deal shows the value, as did the Kari Lehtonen deal. Two more proven goaltenders than Harding went each for a former 1st round pick and a throw-in.

I don't think its a bad deal for Montreal per-say, as if they are going with Price then they had to move Halak. Eller fills a big need on their team.

I think Harding would be a good fit in SJ, and we might be able to get Clowe or Torrey Mitchell back.

I thought they were going to offer up Clowe for Price, honestly. Although, I still say Nabokov to Washington via FA.

If we trade with SJ, I'd like Jamie McGinn. Well built, good skating LW with 20 goal upside.
SJ is a possibility though they have solid young goalie prospects and might feel Harding isn't a significant upgrade on Greiss.
