Expected but the question is this, will he get paid? Honestly, Mirtle said on his twitter there is only really 3 starting spots. Also a whole bunch of goal depth in the NHL FA market.
*Walks out slamming door behind her, crawls into a corner and cries*
We're gonna miss you Danny! Your Twitters keep me sane. Now that says a lot about my mental state, but things won't be the same without you and your..."Oh Absolutely"
Obviously he was told today that the team was not going to meet his current contract demands and was wished good luck and told to keep in contact in case anything changes. Nothing really new, we all knew as soon as Rinne was extended that Ellis was going to test the FA market this summer and with good reason.
Dan clearly wants an opportunity to be at least in a 1a/1b situation and really prefers a spot where he can compete for the No. 1 job outright and he was not going to get that opportunity here. Rinne will likely play a Brodeur-like schedule next season (75+ starts) and there is simply no room for Ellis here.
IMO, he will likely be a prime target for "Nashville North", but could wind up in a number of places. He's gonna have to sign early on July 1st and be flexible with his contract terms to really get the situation he wants, but I believe we'll see him making highlights somewhere next season...hopefully in the Eastern Conference!!!
I'd love to grab Ellis if Niemi costs too much money. Hopefully the Hawks look into him... he seems like a great guy and a very viable option for many teams.

He's tweeted me multiple times, and seems like an all-around awesome guy. IF Niemi can't be signed, Ellis would be ideal.
