Parent traded for rights to Hamhuis & conditional pick!

FriedmanHNIC
Flyers trade Ryan Parent to Nashville for rights to Dam Hamhuis (via Predators announcement)

Edit: Conditional pick is for 2011

MOD EDIT:

http://flyers.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=532091

Quote:
(Philadelphia, PA) - The Philadelphia Flyers have acquired the rights to one of the most sought after free agents-to-be on defense in Nashville Predators blueliner Dan Hamhuis.

On Saturday afternoon, the club announced it had traded defenseman Ryan Parent to Nashville for Hamhuis and a conditional pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Hamhuis is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, so the Flyers will try to sign him to a deal as soon as possible.

“Our intention is to get him signed prior to [July 1], and that is what our aim is at this point in time,” said Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren. “The sooner that we get going on trying to get this done, the better.”

"Obviously, it is sad to leave the Predators," said Hamhuis. "I spent some great years with them and it is great organization to be a part of. I've heard nothing but great things about the city of Philadelphia and the Flyers."

Hamhuis's rights traded to Philly for Ryan Parent. Flyers now have 12 days to sign Hamhuis before he's UFA. Interesting.

Hamhuis > Parent at this point, so Im cool with this, I think if Parent can put together a full injury free season he'll be good, but im stoked.

There's also a conditional draft pick coming our way I believe.

Assuming they sign him... wouldn't be shocked to see one of Carle/Coburn traded in another move.

I haven't watched much of the Preds, just know about Hamhuis from what I hear. Is he better than either of these guys?

I hope not. This is exactly what Kimmo and Pronger need, a capable 5th guy who can take away some of their ice time and keep them rested.

Given the rumors that Coburn and Holmgren are not in agreement about his next contract, I'd lean towards Coburn.

Gotta sign him now! Also, Paul Holmgren must have some crazy dirt on the Nashville GM to keep getting these kind of deals out of him.

Wonder what the conditional pick is...

This may result in keeping Leighton and Boucher on the cheap. Leighton can't sign more than a mil for a new contract I would think....

'cept none of 'em are going to get paid like 5th guys... thus why I would wager on one of 'em being moved.

I wouldn't mind that, but Carle has really grown on me. If they can move Carle in a package for a goalie then alright.

I'm nervous about 1)getting him signed and 2) how much it will cost. With Coburn getting a raise (presumably), we will not exactly have a cheap top 5. Does that mean someone moves? If so, who, and for what?

Can't argue with that, I love big physical D-men. Lord knows Coburn doesn't use his. I guess he's more of a shutdown guy than a puck-mover?

I'll reserve my excitement until he is signed to a contract.

Guess this means the end of Hot Carle.
