Parent: 48 games played, 1G 1A, avg TOI: 14:46.

Looks like a splitter between him and Boullion who's knock was injury prone.

Official Release -

Quote:
NASHVILLE PREDATORS ACQUIRE DEFENSEMAN RYAN PARENT FROM PHILADELPHIA

- Predators send Dan Hamhuis to the Flyers -

Nashville, Tenn. (June 19, 2010) – Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has acquired defenseman Ryan Parent from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for defenseman Dan Hamhuis and a conditional pick in the 2011 Entry Draft.

Parent, 23 (3/17/87), was Nashville’s first pick, 18th overall (first round), in the 2005 Entry Draft, and was sent to Philadelphia on Feb. 15, 2007 in the trade that brought Peter Forsberg to Nashville. He spent his first full season at the NHL level in 2009-10, posting three points (1g-2a) while averaging 14:46 of ice time in 48 games for the Flyers. The Prince Albert, Sask., native also appeared in 17 playoff games during Philadelphia’s run to the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals, scoring one goal.

For his career, the 6-3, 198-pound blueliner has played 102 career games at the NHL level. Parent played his first professional contests for the Milwaukee Admirals – Nashville’s primary developmental affiliate in the American Hockey League – during the team’s run to the 2006 Calder Cup Finals. He is slated to become a restricted free agent on July 1.

That was the knock on Boullion when we signed him. If one of them get's injured, oh damn, bring up Blum, or Josi, or Laakso, or.....

Well part of me says, hey we got something for nothing. (We weren't going to keep Hamhuis) I just wish he got a forward in return but oh well you can't have everything

Funny thing is that they all are linked to the Forsberg trade. Parent was the Sophie's choice between Franson and Parent.

EDIT: So what do you this Nashville can get for Dan Ellis? Turn the conditional 7th into a solid 6th?

So Philly still has to sign Hamhuis. They have 2 weeks. Could be tricky to say the least. Wouldn't it be funny if they couldn't re-sign him, we keep Parent and then re-sign Hamhuis as well. I know that would never happen but it sure would be funny.

I'm just looking at this and the Forsberg deal becomes better and better with each year that passes.

"the Flyers traded him to the Nashville Predators, in exchange for Ryan Parent, Scottie Upshall, and Nashville's first and third round 2007 picks to boost Nashville's playoff run"

Then Nashville trades the rights to Hartnell and Timonen to Philly for the first back, (Jon Blum) and now, they get Parent back for the rights to Hamhuis.

All the players Nashville gave away were players they were going to lose and they only sacrificed a 3rd (Phil de Simone (Centre)) Guy who is in prospect hell. (UNH) and I'm not sure will develop into an NHL player. (Simply because of the UNH factor)

All I need now is a trade when Nashville trades Dan Ellis' rights to Philly for a pick. Seriously, I might wet myself.

And Nashville's 7th is conditional pick. If Philly does not sign Hamhuis per TSN.ca

Glad we got something for Hammer. Surprised he didn't go to the Canucks, but I guess if Philly doesn't sign him they still have a chance.

I like it! Yes, Parent has shown to be injury prone thus far in his career and that is something that will have to be addressed. However, we just got back a 23 year old defensive-defenseman who has shown the ability to play at the NHL level and still has room to mature for Hamhuis.

I think you'd be fooling yourselves if you legitimately thought we were going to get anymore than pick(s) for Hamhuis' rights this summer without either sending pick(s) the other way or taking back a bad contract. So to acquire an NHL roster player, who was drafted by and began his development in the organization (where he was quickly rising before getting sidetracked by a back injury and traded) to me is a winning situation compared to getting a pick(s) that will take 3+ years to develop and show a return or having to take back any contracts.

This pretty much closes the door on Grebeshkov returning as well and likely makes Sulzer trade bait too. But our defense is likely looking like 20-6, 8-77, 51-32 with Blum, Laakso, and Josi on standby in Milwaukee and I think that's a better core of defenseman than we started the day with...

Looking forward to seeing how Coach Peterson works with Parent to round out his game and looking forward to watching his hopefully continued development this season. The biggest hole we've had in our prospect pool since trading Parent has been a shutdown defenseman and we just addressed that by bringing Parent back...so all in all, I'm happy today.

Xpost from global thread:

The deal is:

Parent to Nashville

Rights to Hamhuis and a conditional 7th to Philly.

the 7th stays with Nashville if Philly signs Hamhuis.

So, best case for Nashville, worst case for Philly, best case for Columbia Territory of Canada. Hamhuis tests FA, Nashville trades Parent for a 7th.

Who lost this one? Hamhuis was going to test FA market. Nashville has ample Dmen in the system.

BUT the roster numbers say there are too many NHL ready dmen in too few spots.

Weber-Suter
(RFA) Grebshekov-Boullion
Ryan Parent-Franson-Klein

With Alex Sulzer, Jon Blum, Roman Josi, Teemu Laakso. in the system. For Nashville's cap, Grebs might the next one going. a Parent-Boullion pairing works simply because of both of their knocks for injuries and the massive depth of Milwaukee can fill and give these players time to develop gradually in the NHL.

Which leads to the question. If this is the value of Hamhuis. What would Grebs' rights get? Grebs might be worth slightly less, but jsut slightly.

It's more than I expected.

I guess the question is how good is Parent? Is he NHL worthy? I assume he's on a one-way contract. He was very sheltered getting 7 min/game in PO (when he actually played).

I have a hard time seeing Hamhus sign in Philly. His low key personality just doesn't seem Philly-esqe to me. I think it will come down to how close he is with Timonen and/or Hartnell.

Still wish we foresaw this last offseason and traded him then. We would've got a ton in return.

Before everyone gets all excited, Parent is a RFA so he needs to be signed as well. There is no guarantee that he will either but just something to think about.

But he's an RFA who was making 900K unlike Grebs who was making 3.15 Mil

Stats:

09-10: 48 games 1 goal, 2 assists. Played primary on PK duty in playoffs for about 7 minutes a game. Averaged 14 minutes a game.

08-09: 31 games 0 goals, 1 assist.

Those numbers do not scream "pay me."

I know, I was just throwing it out there. He will be re-signed, I'm not worried about that.

I'm not sure Parent has much leverage in contract negotiations. At a minimum we qualify him to keep his rights, but I really don't think it'll be a big issue...

My only issue is, can the Preds convince Parent to sign a two-way. Could it be possible?
