I don't think Parent needs to sign a two-way deal, though. His defensive game is his strength. He has very very good foot speed. The only weak part of his game is his offensive game.
I am more than pleased with this deal. For starters, I will continue to cheer for the Predators North.....AND we got back the prospect I never wanted to trade to begin with. Parent, if his back will allow him, can be an extremely gifted shut-down d-man. He has size, he has speed, and he has sound defensive instincts. Let's just get him on the ice.
I would say Grebs is likely gone, OR we are trading Franson. It would be intriguing if we could somehow acquire a forward now......

I'm thrilled with this deal. I didn't particularly want Hamhuis back for the cost, and to get a guy I was bummed to lose originally...albeit a guy whose had injury problems...for something we were going to lose anyway, that's great news.
A forward for what? Right now Nashville needs a BETTER forwards, Not more, they got plenty of quantity, they need quality. I like Singleton's idea about getting Buff.
With Grebs possibly leaving, the cap crunch won't be as bad and you can do two things:
find a way to trade Dumont and replace him with Buff.
or pie in the sky
Trade for Buff and play with a tough 3rd scoring line: Buff:O'reilly/Gocumont.
Byfuglien can play defense and 3rd line while scoring. And he would be Radulov insurance IF the idiot savant either comes back not quite as talented, Nashville has to move him because he is a pestlence, or Radulov decides he lines the land of vodka and blintzes.
Obviously, I think the Predators have to move Dumont at this point. He has no value to the team on the third line. 4.5 million is a fair salary, and I still think he can earn that salary level elsewhere........just not here.
I would be on board the Horton train if he is available. It would add more size, versatility, and injury prone-ability to the front line .
So with this move we have our starting 6 for next year on the blue line. Do we split up Weber and Suter or leave them together, use Klein/Bouillon as the second pairing and have Franson and Parent as the number 3 pairing?

worst case scenario Parent is the #7 d-man and gets a year to get healthy riding the pine.
best case he plays close to his potential and we get a cheap servicable 3rd pair defenseman.
If Parent can be a steady 3rd pair D-man for $1M then i'm happy with it. We've got plenty of offense on the blueline, so it's fine by me to have a defensive d-man. I expected to lose Hamhuis for nothing, and with the prospect depth we haveon the blueline if Parent fails, it's really no risk.
Philly isn't exactly known as being a team that handles injuries well. So maybe the Preds can keep him together a little better. As far as someone mentioning his ice time in the playoffs, When a team has Pronger and Timonen as their top pair, Ryan Parent just isn't going to see much TOI, and he certainly isn't getting powerplay minutes either.

I see the worst case scenario as Parent gets icetime out of default, and he doesn't play well, and we are worse team with Parent, Klein, Franson, and rookies on defense.

I was coming in to say something along these lines. After hearing a lot of bi***ing from Flyers fans about Parent, I'm not sure this is a good trade. Decent enough for getting something in return for someone we couldn't sign.

I'm just looking at this and the Forsberg deal becomes better and better with each year that passes.

Then Nashville trades the rights to Hartnell and Timonen to Philly for the first back, (Jon Blum) and now, they get Parent back for the rights to Hamhuis.
Seriously? The trade now amounts to Upshall, Hartnell, Timonen, Hamhuis and a 3rd for 22 games of Peter Forsberg.

I think Parent has to sign a two-way deal or he won't be with the club. It's either he does that and gets playing time in Milwaukee until he matures more, or he wears a suit and tie in the press box every night. I don't see us rolling a Franson/Parent pairing out every night until Ryan gets hurt again.

I'm just not convinced it's this season. I'd assume Bouillon will be paired with Klein, and they will be able to eat 14-17 minutes per game. the more I think about it the more I think poile is trying to get grebs to sign for smaller dollars and parent will be our #7.

IMO, that isn't quite enough. Age 27-32 is exactly what I would call prime years and those years will be the most expensive. If you want a 4M cap hit, I think you will have to give him a massively long contract. Like 12 years with it being front loaded. For only 5 years, I think he can get $4.5M or more

Parent has shown really nice flashes. But he seems to take some time to get his game together, and just about the time you think "hey, he could be what people said" he goes and gets hurt.
I'd read something mid-season that said his back would always be a problem (sorry, I don't have a link).
Still, the potential is there that it's absolutely better than getting nothing for Hamhuis. I have to wonder if some other deal was made, though, with Hamhuis that made it so Nashville couldn't have gotten something better somewhere for the rights to him.
